Finally had the chance to confirm a long-held suspicion of mine last night, to my pleasant surprise!

Readying some stuff for auction, I found two Kader-truck Bachmann engines near-mint in box. One I know had never been run, the other was broken in but very little. I wanted to test them to ensure they work before listing. And they work... about as well as most engines of that type ever did.

Now here's the surprise - 4 out of 5 dentists would agree: my recently tuned Powertorques outhaul them handily!

HOWEVER it must be stated that the Powertorques remain MUCH more susceptible to dirty track. It seems that the Kader truck has better "flywheel action" than the PT, which allows it to coast past problem spots more easily.

And the experience of my younger self pans out too - the PowerTorques DID offer "smoother starts and stops" and could pull more... but only for a relatively short time before falling apart. While harldy performance bechmarks themselves, the Kaders could run almost forever in comparison.

The Kaders do score points for being designed to fit a prototype truck sideframe - in both B and C truck versions. In Tyco's case, the drive was developed and proto appearance was an afterthought (unless the drive was made to fit the existing Mantua sideframes... in which case they could have learned better so prototypes were indeed an afterthought).

Nonetheless, I'd be remiss if I didn't give the PowerTorque its due... It was nice to see it smash the Bachmanns so handily. If only I was confident that would still be true given a few solid hours' worth of runtime...

GinCz:
Interesting comparison in that it is "apples to apples" as far as price point in the marketplace of the time. Suggest taking the experiment a bit further and comparing Kader and P.U.tork to mu-2 Mantua truck, Contemporary Athearn geared power, and "higher-end" from the era like Atlas (GP-30 or FP-7 are probably quite concurrent offerings) or big Pittmanns. Just for the halibut...

Going in Circles, Gentlemen's quartely surveyed ten HOOTERS waitress's. Seven out of the ten prefered men who buy engines with powertorque motors over men who buy engines with Kader motors.
