Hi Guys:
As promised, this is an attempt to share our rolling stock rosters with each other to create dialouge, learn, enjoy, whatever...
To start off the section I will show my 2003 NMRA convention "SARS" car!
It was made by Atlas and the convention itself was a bust because at the time there was a "SARS" (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak in Toronto. Many died durin g the subsequent weeks. That makes this Atlas 50' Box car infamous and beautiful...

Fortunately for me I was living in NJ. at the time instead of Toronto where I grew up!
So guys, thats the start...
Hopefully some day NYC will be less busy and he'll create a thread section for this of it's own...
So please pick a car in your collection you lke and share it with us, OK!???
Appreciate it....
Gareth

Here is Highly sought after car from Lionel HO early 70's. The Sears 40FT boxcar with sliding doors. I own 2 of these in my fleet and both are complete with no broken steps and are in near mint condition. I have installed kadee #5's and Proto 2000 wheels for maximum rolling performance. I can barley remember having this car from a Sears ho set that Santa brought me in 1975 at the age of 3. The layout was mounted on a 4x8 sheet of gray paneling and had an inner loop with remote switches. The set had a steam engine along with a few other cars including a crane car.

On the store promo theme, here is Tyco's version for a competing chain:

Note that this is now confirmed as a Brown-box release also; the stamping on the box is factory legit and I have a couple others done this way as well. The Diamond Date is June 1971.

I will say that I do like that Sears car better, myself... [B)]

Nice cars, guys...
I don't have any store themed ones to offer. When a large amount of BLI steam and diesel locomotives with their noisy sound chips started showing up on run nights at the club, a friend of mine and I fought back. We each own one of these AHM steam sound cars and would run them with anything, regardless of locomotive type. They don't sound too bad actually.

Hey SG:
Been thinking about buying a BLI. You don't like the sound they provide?

Until they figure out a way to make a synchronized subwoofer setup, most every sound system annoys me...almost like running fingernails down a chalkboard. I tolerate it as best I can.

Hey SG:
So the "pitch" of the sounds are too high? I've listened to some samples on their website (BLI) and liked what I heard for the most part. Have you heard Diesel and Steam?

I've heard most every one available and thought the MDC F unit was the best by far. Everyone else just sounded tinny and annoying. I was turned off to it early on, it wasn't helped by a particular member leaving his bell chiming in the yard while he went out for coffee. I very nearly threw a brick at that thing.

Nice Refer, taycotrains.
I have a few freight cars I like...
I bought this "Trains 35th Anniversary" up here in BC, CA.

This next one is a Lionel HO Caboose. I also have a Lionel Tank car that has the "T" in front of the car numbers.

Now, this next one puzzles me. It's a 40' boxcar representing the "Timken Rollerbearings." I'm not sure who made it.

Thanks for looking. Let me know if I put in too many entries.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

That's an Athearn. I can tell immediately by the blue roof and sides. It's also from the yellow box era if those are the original sprung trucks. During the late 50's Lionel jumped into the HO game. They couldn't keep up with demand so they outsourced many of their products to Athearn and Rivarossi. The lionel version of this car goes for over $100.
Ooh ooh, a Rolling Stock of the week, I have some rolling stock, just ask Gareth, lol.

Those metal MDC cars were nice kits in their day. (even the couplers are metal) I took this one apart and re assembled it to straighten out some of the warped parts after this photo was taken.

I thought I recognized that Timken car! Yes, Athearn, mine from late 50's, maybe 1960. My other contribution this week is the Mantua 75th anniversary boxcar--Their last year! By this time, anyway, production had pretty much gone to China apparently. Sorry for the glare, the box is still unopened, and has tape on the ends.

Okay, do the Lionel ones have "Lionel" stamped on the bottom? This one does not. But, yes for the original metal trucks... (from my digi-cam, I'm quite impressed what it can do.)

sony w35........ so nice p.s. from the words of Peter Griffin, "Holy xRap! That's big!" John

No, the word Lionel is never spelled out. First, if the roof is blue you have the one made by Athearn and sold by Athearn under the Athearn name. It's a nice car but not worth much.
The ones marketed by Lionel have a yellow roof and sides. Both of the ones they outsourced to Athearn and Rivarossi have an L within a circle. That is their trademark. It's less than an 1/8" in diameter so you have to look for it. On either make it is printed on the sides of the car. The rivarossi can be distinguished by the plastic add-on ladders, the Athearn's are molded into the body.
