Hello All, My name is Carl T. I am an Auto Mechanic I mainly collect and operate Lionel,Marx,& American Flyer trains. But I have recently been buying Tyco,Life Like,Ahm and other HO trains that I used to have,or wanted to have as a child in the 70's. I forgot how much stuff was available back then, and I have a looooong wish list. Also the HO slot car bug has bitten again so I am also buying that stuff too. I also run EVERYTHING, that is the most fun for me! I'm glad to be a part of this forum!

Hi Carl: Flyer pre-war, standard-gauge, 3/16th on O-track, 3/16th on S-track or Gilbert HO? (re: your Flyer collecting) Magnolia Academy I used to have mounds of the Chicago-made pre-Gilbert Flyer... College days chewed that collection up: not much left, really, except favorite pieces of the S-gauge, HO Gilbert and rather more of the early Gilbert 3/16th on O-gauge from '39-'42.

Howdy MA, I have within the past 2 years been interested in Flyer S gauge, and have a few locos, and freight cars. I do have a few prewar O Flyer stuff but not much. Last year a friend gave me his fathers Flyer HO Northern Pacific passenger set with boxes,it is an A-B-A set in I would say Excelent condition. And it surprisingly runs pretty well, and all the lights work in the passenger cars. Anyone know the value on this set?
Carl T. Man of many gauges!

Hello All, I'm Robert. I am 36, and hopelessly collect and operate Tyco HO.
My first layout came on Christmas 1977, a 4x12 3 track mainline with a 6 track-yard filled with Tyco rolling stock from Woolco, TG&Y and a small hobby store once located in Gulfport, Ms by Colonial Bakery (both no longer there).
The layout mainly consisted of 3 Chattanooga GP20 sets (1 for me, 1 for Sis, one for Dad -Mom wasn't interested), 1 Durango GP20 set, and 1 Comin 'Round The Mountain Set. I still have some of the original pieces. My father was Ga-Ga over the colorful trains at the age of 44 (in 1977), and now I can see why.
I am currently toying with the idea of running ALL of my AHM, Life-Like, Bachmann, Cox, Renwal, Pemco, Lionel HO and Tyco accessories on a huge prototypical layout UTILIZING ready-to-run gear...with primarily Tyco rolling stock. I am undecided about the locos. I may slip a Proto 2K chassis underneath a Tyco shell, to ensure flawless running. I'd like to give each car and accessory a job to do, and make it all cohesively work, just to prove to myself (and the Koesterite Rivet Counters) that it can, in fact be done...and work...convincingly.
I also enjoy researching and prototyping the L&N NO&M line line from Mobile, Ala. to New Orleans, La (this is my hometown run). This is for Kato, Atlas, Proto 2K, Stewart, Walthers and Roundhouse stuff.
That is my paradox: I dig the Koesterite mentality for the L&N side, yet I am lustfully seduced by the colorful and action-packed trains of my past. I just love 'em all.
Nice to meet everyone!

Hello everyone! I'm Bob, and I still like my Tyco trains. Now, like many in here, I started out with hand-me-down Lionels, the Tycos were the first trains that I was allowed to use everyday. I collect postwar Lionel, AF, Gum Band Drive Atheran, and (Surprise!) Tyco![:D] as well as trying to corner the market on O scale Atlas O F-9s! (Figured out who I am yet John Long?. Hint) I am a retiree fron the Air National Guard.

My name is John. For a personal brief. I live in Wisconsin. I am a process piping/machinery designer for paper and fuel refining industries.
On to the important details. Most of my stuff is postwar Lionel which I've collected and operated since 1981. I got a wild hair for 50/60's Tyco/Mantua just recently. It started with a link to this Tyco site. I examined the red box section and was overwhelmed with grade school memories of the Tycos I had as a kid. Soon I won a shifter set on ebay followed by a small assortment of cars and a CBQ GP-20. And oh yea, a vintage revell unbuilt station kit. Now if I can find some vintage glue that smells like the stuff I had as a kid. Last night I got to really run this stuff on some roadbed track I set up on the floor. Man....what a trip back in time. All I need now is an HO styrofoam tunnel. I am sold on the robust construction of Tyco/Mantua. The stuff runs and looks incredibly well for the price.

Hello everyone,
My name is Neil. I'm 42 and got my first Tyco set somewhere in the mid 70s. I had to give up my train layout in 89 when my first child was born. Lived in a small trailer. My time has come, i got rid of the wife build a larger house. Now im waiting for my older child to go to college, boy will she be surprized when she comes home to find her 22 foot by 14 foot bedroom had been turned into a hugh model room. i only had 8 months to go....lol in the meantime, i have a small room im used for planning and collecting and repairing engines and rolling stock. I have over 100 Tyco engine and 50 others. Over 700 cars, 500 being Tyco. I have all but 3 of the buildings and action cars. mmmm maybe i dont have to wait until my oldest leaves the next... i wonder if u can sell kids on ebay....lol
is there a single woman out there who understand a train fetish....lol

Hi My name is Brian-(Brianstyco). I am 35 happily married with a 2 yr old daughter. I am a cement mixer driver.I recieved my first tyco train in the late seventies. In the last year i have acquired a very large collection of tyco items mostly from ebay. I have some of the hard to find tyco items such as operating mail car new in box as well as an mint 76 service station. I use to not care about tyco at all for a long while then about over a year ago i started purchasing tyco items i had as a kid or wanted. I have also learned how to fix the tyco motors from junk ones and it does not always work. Tyco was how i got started in trains. I also have Kato Atlas Athearn locos and rolling stock as well and enjoy the new technology as far as lighting effects and sound. I highly recommend a MRC power pack for your tyco trains- the response of your engine performance is incredible. I have used mrc power packs for over 20 yrs and nothing else. Save that tyco pack for accessories.

Sup ppl. I'm Eric. I'm almost 14 and I live in Ottawa. I bought a Tyco Canadiana caboose when I was 6 or 7 and earlier this year found the matching engine. Once I got the engine, I started tryin to find out more about it and found the Tyco trains resource. I looked through some of the pages and realized that some of the train cars I had bought on the second hand table were Tyco. These things are crazy!! Been findin more Tyco stuff ever since. I collect mainly Tyco and President's Choice trains but I do have some athern, atlas, bachmann and a couple of other companies. I even have a model of the Disney Monorail[:D]! So far I've managed to get 5 workin Tyco engines, and 6 workin PC engines.

P.S. If anyone knows where I can get another model of a monorail please lat me know.[:D]

Hello all! My name is Michael. I am 37 years old and married with 6 kids. I am an Entomologist, which means I play with bugs for a living. 2 years ago,I got back into trains after a 28 year absence. I had gotten burned out from armour modeling. I saw trains as a way to unwind and have a hobby my kids could enjoy with me. I have become a loco collector with no real favorite maker. I like to gut and rebuild locos from most makers. I have rebuilt AHM GP18's that out perform new Atlas locos at the hobby shop. Rebuilding has become my favorite aspect of the hobby. My "layout" is just a couple ovals on a sheet of plywood without scenery. My next layout will be a slightly larger version of my current plan. I like continuous running, not operation!

Cheez: Be on the lookout for a Kenner Skyrail Monorail set from the sixties--they show up regularly on eBay and were sold in Canada as well as the U.S. You could "build two birds with one stone" as it were and get a great building set and a very slick monorail addition all in one well swoop!
Hypoponera: Does this mean you'll load those empty flat cars with all manner of ultra-detailed PZKFW and SKDFZs? Or perhaps an errant Jackson or Sheridan? Tycootus Formicidae er, Magnolia Academy

Mag Ac,
Sorry to say, my armour models are the wrong scale. Tanks ar 1/35th scale while my trains are 1/87th. I refuse to pay the ultra high price for Roco mini tanks! And by the way, the ants are one of my favorite families!

Tanks anyway, Michael! Good Tamiya... Methinks ye should still combine yer two passions... I can just picture that Nitto Ferdinand with super-detailed interior perched atop a Lionel depressed center flat, or sprawling an old Airfix Diamond T transporter with a flatbed sporting a burned out ESCI Valentine on the back of a old Lima flatcar... now that will even run on yer HO track. HMMM... now you've got me thinking, where did I stash all those kitmaster T-34s? Vibernum Tycopulus (MA)

| Hello All--It's great to see a Tyco forum. I've been a fan of the Collector's Resource site also. I'm 41, and got my first Tyco trainset (made for Sears) in 1969. It must have been one of the last years of the 'red' box era. It had the Santa Fe GP 20 with a few cars, including operating ore dump and piggyback ramp. A few years ago, I set out to recreate that original set, but ended up getting hooked, building a rather large collection of red box, brown box, blue box (50's or early 60's) and Mantua items. My small layout is specifically designed to run the Tycos, i.e. nickel silver track, powered frogs, and other considerations to keep 'em rolling smoothly. Every time I wander off into 'serious' modeling, I never seem satisfied, and always return to the fun of running the Tyco layout. My son loves it also. Hopefully, I'll be able to share ideas here, and learn from all of you. In addition to everything Tyco, I currently am building a collection of the beautiful Mantua aluminum passenger cars--I have the Golden State set and a Pennsylvania set. Chris in Texas

I'm 49, married with a 17 year old son. I spent 20 years as an auto and diesel mechanic then retrained and worked as a lead radiological maintenance technician at a nuclear waste plant until I was forced into an early retirement due to physical problems. I was introduced to toy trains and model railroading at an early age by my dad and have been involved with the hobby ever since.
