Fellow Collectors;
I’ve been reading the postings in your forum for some time and thought I’d put a moniker to one of the “guests” you see wandering around. Said moniker chosen reflects both my interest and age. In my youth I had three great passions; model trains (Mantua in particular), Saturday afternoon at the movie theater (Tex Ritter and Tim McCoy catching the train robbers) and breakfast cereal with milk (Ranger Joe was a favorite). Of the three the Mantua is all that’s left! Tex Ritter give up movie making and became Governor of the State of Tennessee (his son John Ritter became a TV star with the “Three’s Company” show). Tim McCoy spent a fortune starting a wild West Show that went broke after 2 weeks (Walthers made a “Real McCoy” circus train set which I have fitted with hook n loop couplers, of course!). And per my doctor’s orders all milk products are out, along with most other good things! So, regressing to my childhood and playing with trains occupies me now. At least when I’m not doing chores for Madam Queen (she thinks retirement means time to do more stuff for her). I don’t contemplate saying much in this forum. The old tycoots have most everything covered. It’s a great forum. Coupled with Terry Cook’s site it has given this old man a great deal of enjoyment.
LoopnHook just call me loopy
PS: From his postings I figure MagnoliaAcademy is about the same age as my eldest son.

Hey,
Great name, though I bet it'll take a few of the younger folks some research to know what it means!!
Welcome Aboard! Your Mantua knowledge will certainly get some questions I can assure you. Do you have very much Mantua-Tyco or are you just getting back into enjoying it again?
I run the TYCO Resource and like about everyone else around here have the bug for trains with older stuff a priority. Please feel free to jump into or start up some new topics.

Tony
Thank you for the warm welcome aboard! My father started his working career on the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad which caused me to have the choo choo bug all my life. Recently my sons (also infected with the bug, it’s contagious) have been asking about model train items they see on E Bay and that prompted me to look around the web to see what information was posted. That lead me to your site and this forum. Would you call me a model railroader? Yes! Would you call me a collector? Yes. How large is my collection? Madame Queen sez too big! However, her collection of FiestaWare needs more room so I consider her comments to be self serving. We actually have these and our other collections housed in an old barn. To be fair we also have the family business there too. No, I don’t have one of everything made by Mantua/Tyco. But, I do have at least one of everything I liked. Most are early kits with a smattering of red and brown. No fantasy stuff (Midnight Specials don’t count). I welcome any questions anyone would like to ask. However, I know that I don’t have all the answers! The 1950’s are a little cloudy in my mind. I was too busy with military service (Korean conflict and the guys in the north haven’t bothered us much since) getting married, building the first house, having the first child, etc to take notes on the wild changes that took place in Woodbury. The good news is that from about 1939 to 1950 is clear as a bell… Can’t remember what I did yesterday, but my first loco build is vivid.

Hi Loopy,
Welcome. I'm sure you will love it here. This is one great group of people. They sure made me feel welcome. I had to laugh when I read your post and you said Madame Queen needs more room for her Fiestaware LOL! It's the same here Fiestaware and TYCO trains.
Have fun here. Mike

Hi Mike
Thanks for the welcome! Here's a tip if you have FiesterWare around. Broken platters make great rock strata on the layout. Just butter them with some plaster and lay them like bricks. Fast, simple and hides the evidence if you happen to break a plate or two!
