After enjoying model railroading as a kid (my dad did all the work) I've started to pull all of the old engines out of the boxes so my grandchildren can enjoy them. Most of the old engines do not run and I've done a lot of reading, watching videos etc. and I'm going to work on clean and lubricating many of them but in the end, for the rest of them it's probably best to replace the chassis on some the old engines - what is the best place to find them?

Thanks for any assistance that can be provided.

Welcome aboard Terry. I would guess a local model train store may have that used item.

Regional model train shows do have those. Most shows are in the autumn and winter though.

A few shows are in August.

eBay sells those items if you have access to eBay.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply and information - I'll do some digging on eBay. Is there any particular seller you would recommend?

Tyco locomotives, the diesels anyway, do not have a chassis. Instead, the body sheel serves as structural support, and the trucks and fuel tank pop into the body itself.

If you'd like to replace these with an actual chassis, look at old Athearn locomotives. The "F9" should fit on an Athearn F7 chassis, the GP20 on a GP7 or GP9, and the SD24 on an SD9. For the C630 and C430 there are no direct Athearn replacements, and you'd have to modify the chassis lengths to fit. Or you could do like I am doing and buy a new Hobbytown chassis kit for those locomotives.
