Many people aren't aware that the Empire State building was originally designed to be a docking port for dirigibles, when it was built in 1931. Even though there were laws against flying that low over NYC. After the Hindenberg explosion in 1936, the idea was scrapped, and it never came to be. No airship ever docked at the Empire State. But, what if the Hindenberg had not exploded? What if the laws had been changed to accommodate the original plans? It might look something like this. Nice! Actually, the mooring mast was just an excuse to make the building taller than the Chrysler Building. Apparently one docking was attempted with almost disastrous results. Master Of Plasticville

Not just attempted. They did dock for a whole 3 minutes, according to the article I read and linked. The problem was the 40 mph winds at the time.
