As promised are my two latest aquisitions. A Con-Cor U.P. SD-24. A new set of handrails, glazing and parts from a tyco sd-24 (air tanks and horns).

And the completed diesel.

Next is still awork in progress. Needs new side handrails. My DT&I GP-20 that someone modified into a high nose with an sd-24 (possibly atlas. concor) cab.

Thanks Robert it was another fun project.
A-A-RON thanks for not outbidding me, it was the only thing I won out of 9 that day.
Chops124 it actually came out better than expected, when I received it the back of the cab was filled in with cardboard and painted over it now has been filled with Vallejo as are the other gaps.

Found these oldies in the back of the closet. The NAR was my first attempt at black decals with not so great results.

Finally found wire for the handrails, though not a match for tyco wire according to other websites it is to scale (.015) for HO scale.

Thanks Chops. Yeah NAR operated from 1929 until 1981 operated jointly by canadian national and canadian pacific. It is now defunked and mostly abandoned.
Here are two more saves. A red box BN gp-20 where someone did a bad paint job trying to fix the long hood, luckily I came across a dynamic brake which covers it totally. The black paint was really easy to replicate.

And you take two damaged reading diesels take the back from one and graft it onto the other.

Yes sections of the NAR track are still in use, some have been abandoned. However as stated when CN bought out the NAR "Northern alberta railways" ceased to exist.

Sorry chops124 but that is the way the shell came. I just added the internals and cut slots through the shell for the power torque drive. Usually when i do my own customs i spray the paint then semi-gloss coat, add the decals and then it is either dull coat or gloss coat. Here is a better look at what i did.

A fabulous restore, Hoarder. I do find that Coke campaign rather ironic as I survey the
state of union, these days. In the '70's we youngsters thought we had solved the
bigger problems of society, only to later find we had opened a can of Pandora worms,
and no way to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Add metaphors. Mix thoroughly.

Now, if you had a bunch of people drinking Coke and singing about harmony, someone would be protesting the corn sugar.

Finally finished my Burlington route conversion to Tyco/Mantua MU-2 motor. The internals are stock parts . The shell an old Arhearn GP9 I had. Took some modification to the interior of the front end so the motor could swivel but the dremel took care of that easily. The tank and weight are kitbash (made in slovenia) with air tank parts from a sprue set off of ebay.

Here it is in comparison to my Athearn U.P. GP9 with Athearn drive.

Thanks but I am a tyco/mantua fanatic. Do you want to guess which one runs better than the other? Fact is working on athearn is a pain and just try to find parts for older frames and gear boxes or trying to afford a modern frame for old shell that will fit.

Miami Southern!!! That's a treat.

I lived for a spell in the Permian Basin. Home to the Pecos Valley Southern. It appeared
their reason for existence was shuttling about fracking sand on really, really decrepit
rails at 2 mph. The west end of this half abandoned town is a lattice of track work
weaving in and out of abandoned lots and buildings. Must have been quite something
back in the day. I gather onions and cantaloupe were a big export product, and it
apparently went by rail.

Oh, you don't have to explain it to me. I understand the obsession! I'll admit one of my favourite runners is an Athearn F7 pair, but in my defense the A-unit uses a re-motored Hi-F drive. Smooth operation and nothing to do but oil bearings, and change rubber bands.

The Miami Southern is a cool find! I have a few custom pieces in my collection done by others as well.

Know exactly what your talking about with the HI-F drive i have one and it runs great. But may i make a suggestion. Stop using rubber bands, i found out that you can use rubber traction tires from a steam loco to replace rubber bands. They last longer and do not loosen and slip. Sorry i don't have the stock number on hand it has been a long while since i changed them. Have a look on ebay.

Chops124 neat info and if i did not have over 2 dozen works in progress i would make a PVS diesel.

I use cheap hair elastics. The pack I found fits great and you'd never guess it was a band drive unless you flipped it over. Those same bands also fit a Varney belt drive and provide excellent operation.

Never thought of using hair elastics. But if you want to try traction tires I pulled my atsf hi-f out of the catacombs and the tire is Marklin #7152. All these years and it still works with the originals.

Good to know! The hair elastics I'm using do dry out eventually, maybe every year or two. They work well for a while though, and when the unit inevitably throws a band it's a good excuse to tear the thing down and oil all the bearings.

I use cheap hair elastics. The pack I found fits great and you'd never guess it was a band drive unless you flipped it over. Those same bands also fit a Varney belt drive and provide excellent operation.

I used Goody's Hair Bands for a while, a dollar buys a lifetime supply, but I soon found they deteriorate
after only a few hours of use. The Caltron, or whatever it was called, provided much needed durability.
