Good afternoon-
My name is Todd, I'm new to the group.
When I was young, my parents gave me a TYCO set with a circle of train and a BN shark nose diesel. It also came with the punch out town.
My dad came up with some kind of a modular layout that consisted of eight basic pieces. Included were four indentical corner pieces, two indentical pieces with straight track, and two semetrically opposite parts with a switch on them. All the pieces were roughly 18 to 20 inches square. Granted this all was thiry years ago, but I do recall seeing it with track pieces on it tthat were to big to be HO, although I recall them being two rail with full rail underneath, not like a Lionel set up. The whole thing had roads and lakes and such on it.
Does anyone have any idea of what it might have been? When I moved up to a 4x8 layout, it was altimately thrown out.
Thanks, Todd

The only scale "bigger than HO, smaller than Lionel/O" that I'm aware of is S scale. But that would likely have predated your Tyco set: American Flyer used to make sets in this scale back when Lionel O was in its heyday. Even then, I'm not sure if AF sets were 2- or 3-rail. Modern S-scale is of course two-rail but not at all common.

The layout was second hand when I got it. It was old then, and that was thirty years ago. It wasn't necessarly TYCO. I never did find any comapny ID.
These were a pre-painted panel that had all the scenery on them. Each corner piece had a tunnel that blaended in to the plastic panels. These were removable. They were not the cheesy foam tunnels that one could buy, but an intregal part of the layout panels. By the time I got it, all the pieces were missing excpt for one corner.
The track could have been sometime S-scale, as my HO engine was too narrow for the track. I'm guessing it must have been made in the 1950's or 1960's.
Thanks, Todd

The layout pieces you describe are the All Aboard scenic tiles made by American Flyer in the 60's. These were S gauge,I found a few sets on Ebay.
