I don't really know how to introduce this, as I'm completely shocked, and ecstatic at the same time.......

I got a FREE 4'x8' layout, and boxes of train stuff today!!!!

Thanks to an online networking site, someone about 20 minutes away from where I live posted a layout and train items for free pickup at their house, and after work today, Dad and I took my truck to pick it up. Turns out the layout and trains belonged to the couple's son, who no longer was interested in trains after he moved to Virginia.

Here it is after arriving safely at its new home.

And here's the layout. A 4' x 8' HO-Scale layout, a solid sheet of plywood mounted on foldable and roll-able legs, and what I like most is that it is a blank slate, meaning that the sky is the limit.

Now, as far as the boxes. The first was full of bridge parts, as well as some buildings. In fact, the bridge to complete the figure-8 is in there, as well as the remaining supports.

And...the 2nd box was full of HO train boxes, with some scenery and accessories on the bottom. What was in those boxes blew my mind. Freight cars in almost mint condition, and 3 diesel locomotives!!! 2 classic Athearns - a Western Pacific "Black Widow" F7 and Conrail GP9, and a LifeLike Proto Santa Fe "Erie Built."

The remaining boxes include a shoebox full of track pieces and accessories, an MRC powerpack, a massive LifeLike tunnel, and manual turntable!

Once again, I never would have expected anyone to give this away, but I'm happy to take what was once someone's layout and turn it into a dream, as I always wished for a standard HO-Scale 4'x8' layout, to run some of my larger trains like my GG1s, etc, that just couldn't handle the tight track on the Ephrata Valley Railroad. I can't believe it............................

Nice find RP!! After 13 years of storage I got room and went crazy with my train stuff. Almost built too big of a layout. But I soon found out I needed all of that room to properly display my stuff.

I don't plan on making any huge progress on this layout until the new year, as I hope to wrap up the year with Santa Fe Paradise, getting it to that stage of "forever 98% complete."

Right now, I do have all the trestles, but I am missing the what appears to be, 4 bridge supports for the large gray Roco bridge. Will post pics in the near future.
