Here is a Tyco city of san francisco that I found on ebay it looks very odd like the paint has been removed or it has faded the front union pacific logo looks like a decal that someone put on there. does anyone know why it is like this? here is a link to the listing:https://www.ebay.com/itm/TYCO-HO-E7-Union-Pacific-City-of-San-Francisco-Locomotive-SF-4-runs-nice/143679654509?hash=item2173f98a6d:g:LVwAAOSwMexfF0ge

A mystery to behold. Would have thought sunlight would have equally damaged the graphics. Is this a one off?

I would think it would cover the graphics to but if you look carefully at the front Union Pacific logo then you can see that it's a decal that someone put on there even though it looks just like the original

It's just really faded and the front is destroyed. I don't think it's a decal. Why put a decal over something that's already there?

Gotta say...that almost white/completely sun-faded version looks awesome, and for a "professional" look, some rust spots would really make this thing look incredible....
But, the Tyco Collector in me is sad.

If you look closely you can see the edges of the decal if that's what that is

The Tyco UP E7s had a decal on the front. That looks correct to me. The colour on the other hand...

Probably because the nose herald had too many colours and too much intricacy for the factory to paint. There are a few engines that used decals. The Silver Streaks had UP nose decals, and the Canadiana nose maple leaf was a decal. I'm sure there are others as well.

This looks a stripped loco where the stripping agent was not able to dissolve the logo paint. You can see that the base gray plastic has a yellowish tint. On some other forums there were photos of Santa Fe war bonnet locos that the silver dissolved and washed away, but the red paint was impermeable and stayed in place.
If that's the case, the nose crest decal would have been added after stripping. A very unusual look.
