I forget if I ever posted about this project on here, so enjoy!

Back in February 2017, I acquired this Tyco Spirit of '76 Alco C430, which had been detailed and weathered by the previous owner. This was before my zeal for Tyco really kicked in, even though I did have a few Tyco pieces at the time....so I decided to customize it into for a fallen flag which Tyco never produced the C430 in - the New York Central.

A little backstory, the Alco C430's were the last locomotives officially ordered by the New York Central RR, and they were delivered in the NYC scheme, right on the edge of the Penn Central merger. Thus, they were soon repainted into the black PC scheme, and very few photos or models exist of the C430's in their original NYC scheme.

I first removed the truck assembly from the shell, and spray painted the full shell, as well as truck covers, with a matte black color. I did Not strip the paint beforehand, so if you hold the C430 in the light a certain way, you can still see the Spirit of '76 seal.

I then reassembled everything, painted the front and rear handrails yellow, added decals, and officially completed my New York Central C430. Not too bad, in my opinion, for a young me.

Recently, I decided to return to my NYC C430 to do something I had planned to do for a long time - replace those cursed Kadee/knuckle couplers with horn hooks. Now, it looks complete.

A video is forthcoming, so stay tuned.

I think you did a very nice job on it.

The ONLY thing I would recommend doing after you touch up your handrails, is to hit with with a few coats of krylon matt clear.

Really nice job on it still.

That is such an interesting back story. I can't help wondering where
the NYC, starved of cash, got money to buy new locomotives. A
truly great piece.
