Today is December 25 2018 and I just discovered that the Tyco Collector's Forum is back! Best Christmas Gift Ever!!
I have been working on a lot of projects since my last post so I have some catching up to do!
Below are some pictures of one of my latest Tyco kitbash projects, my Tyco Boxcab switcher....

The mechanism is from a Tyco Plymouth switcher and the superstructure is made from Santa Fe style steel caboose shells. If your interested in trying this project for yourself check out the how-to article in the March 1983 issue of Model Railroader.

Thanks for the nice comments, I missed this forum so much. Half the fun of model railroading is sharing your work with others!
As for the plucky Number 9, it is simply an old Plymouth Switcher with an MU 2 drive. The conversion into a box cab was started by removing everything above the frame and then building a new shell on top of it. The detail parts and the decals give the model some character.
Surprisingly it makes a good switch engine, all my turnouts on my layout have powered frogs so the four wheel pickup gives me little trouble. This little engine actually can run pretty slow so it does make a good switcher, of course as a true tyco at heart, it can run pretty fast at full speed too!

Beautiful shot of your layout. I remember your other photos with the rebuilt box cars. Very nice.

Superb video. The boys at the shop must have put in some mad OT to come up with that custom creation. The layout, in its unique style, is reminiscent of John Allen with its profusion of bridges, retaining walls, neatly intersecting track and diamonds. ENCORE!
Great soundtrack, too.

Thanks Chops.
Looking back, I haven't posted much about my layout. When I get a chance I'll do a layout tour post.

Way cool! You certainly have put in some time making it great. Have you considered mounting a small video cam on a flat car and doing an engineer's view? BUT any tour would be most interesting, and I look forward to it.

It has to run better than the original Cab Engine!

That's a great kitbash and wonderful video. It really shows off your layout well as well as your kitbashing talents.

Actually the mechanism for my box cab is an unaltered Tyco MU2 drive. I have found that if you keep the wheels clean, the locomotive will operate smoothly even at switching speeds. When I get a chance I will have to make a video using the engine for switching.

I was just looking over some kitbashes of this past year and just want to say how clever and well done this kitbash is. I really enjoy seeing new ideas for locos.

I agree, video if you might!!! Srench, that box cab is a work of art. Both. Watching a small displacement locomotive going about its duties is a pleasure to watch.
