I've been having a lot of fun with this little Mogul in the past week. It came as part of a no name set of a rather odd combination: the early 1900's Mogul, a caboose, a Zenith box car, and a flat with a container. How odd, that's why I bought it. Never the less, didn't think the Mogul, I suspect it is by Mehano, would perform very well at all, and to my great surprise it runs very well in the low to mid range speeds. Doesn't pull much, 3 cars and a caboose and she is maxed out, but for short trains she is a gem.

I want one of those Moguls pretty darn bad. They are famous for their running quality! IHC toted it as their best engine.

Not a huge hauler, but I really like its compact size. IHC does not hold up well over time, but so far this unit has performed better than others I've had, and worn out.

Proves my point!
I like IHC's Steamers, they're nice imo and affordable.

I've got the IHC Mogul and have added some lead hung under the cover plate on the frame. It helps a bit with the traction. It's still not a heavy hauler, but it's good for another car on the uphill climb.

Chops,
Would you please take a picture of the underside of your Mogul? I would like to see how the mechanism is set up.

Yeah, Is that the tender drive or loco drive?
Judging by the metal tender wheels, I think It's loco drive.

Yes, I will, it is loco drive. Can't see any vestige of the motor, but whatever it is it sure runs better than any AHM product I've ever used. Come to think of it, I've run it for several hours of videotaping (the footage is edited down to 3 or 4 minutes max) and this unit has never once stalled, failed to start, nor has it derailed ever. Tender markings are "Mehano."

It has a can motor in the cab, or just in front of the cab. Made by Mehano for IHC.
