Sturdy old Alco by Tyco (not an F unit, of this we are sure, I am guessing here). Got the MU 2 motor, and a veteran of many hours. Hopefully she will run today in a new video.

This weeks LOTW, a Mauntua/ Tyco 4-8-0 for Brian. This loco was a wreck. Literally was a big mess of brush paint and parts until it came to me. Some goofball glued all the components together. They glued the cab to the boiler, tender to the frame, etc. Surprised the wheels weren't glued to a piece of track! I sure had one hell of a time trying to get everything apart, and without breaking the plastic, which did happen, but I tried to fix it the best I could. Should've just left the cab be, because now there's a giant ugly crack down the side. anyway, I cleaned, lubed, and most importantly, stripped and repainted this old warrior. Hopefully, brian will be pleased with my work, and will put it up for sale on his ebay acct. I'll put the link here if he does and if anyone is interested. Now for the pics!
Before

 (Insert curse words here:)

After

I repainted it exactly the way it was, and left it undecorated, in case someone else wants to add their own touch.

My LOTW is a Roundhouse Harriman Consolidation:

I got it as a kit and built it with minor modifications to operate better on my layout. While it's a bit improved from its original design, the rigid wheelbase is a bit long for some of the uneven trackwork on the line. It'll make the round of the mainline, but is not especially dependable for things like switching, so I mostly just run it when I'm messing around. Here, it's hauling a cut of refrigerator cars:

It's a smooth running locomotive, but a bit unforgiving about abrupt grade changes on a curve, and I have one of those on a difficult place to fix.

Love the Round House series, mostly pretty rugged. Alas, the gears have split on my lovely old RH box cabs.
I have been enjoying my old Pemco this day. Pemco was a split off from Tyco. A group of Tyco engineers and designers rebelled at what they (correctly) thought was a cheapening of the line, what with the hateful PT motors, in the particular. So they started their own company: Precision Engineered Model Company.
I have one locomotive, and if I buy more NOS locommotives they will be Pemco. Same for their cars. This stuff is so nice running and durable as to disbelief. I only have one or two Pemco cars, which are superb, but I collected a small pile of Marx cars after Frank got me interested. They sell for junk, pennies, a dollar, discard bin. I will tell you straight up, they are the most trouble free cars I have ever enjoyed running. I don't know what they did to the flanges, but these darlings hug the rails like they were glued on. They are designed to be used by beginners and last the test of time = pure fabulous, in my book.

Thank you, Frank, for drawing my attention to Marx.

I've actually got a tyco 4-6-0 that I'm contemplating on wether or not to do this. It's the W&A Dixie Belle but with a wood load and Diamond stack.

I had two, but now I have one in running order and am cannibalizing the other to keep the one going. I've had the little pinion gear on the motor and the universal joint ball on the worm shafts split. The universal I could fix, but the little pinion gear's another story. I'm hoping the remaining one holds together.

Right! I have often pondered a small 1880's layout, and these locomotives would make it work nicely. You got a whale of a deal, I paid closer to $130, and amount I rarely pay for any one thing.

Same. My most expensive purchase to date, but I cant wait to run it. I know these Bachmann DCC locomotives work fine on DC track, but how do you activate the sounds such as the whistle, bell, etc. I'm assuming it will play the chuffing sounds as it runs. I'll have to read up on it.

Yes, it chuffs nicely when it runs, and stopping and starting and reversing activates the appropriate whistle signal for the brakemen. Not sure about the bell, however.

Does that DCC Jupiter run as is on DC analog, as well, or do you have to do something to uninstall DCC?

So whenever I start or stop the model it's going to blow the whistle?
When filming my series. That may get annoying. Maybe I should get a DCC controller, like bachmann's.
Also chops the front handrail on your NH 430 is up over the hood, it should be positioned like the rear handrail.

Yes, like Blax said, it runs with automatically synchronised sound effects out of the box. Nothing has to be done to the DCC. I am told that the timing and the nature of the whistle blasts corresponds to the correct, regulation hoots.
And thank you, I'll flip it back down!
