My LOTW will be my Bachmann Union Pacific F9. It recently developed some sort of short, so it will have to go into the shops for some traction motor repairs. I'm also currently looking for a handrail kit or enough handrail stanchions for a Tyco GP20.

This Tyco 630 died a while back, I believe from a half drop of too much oil. It just underwent motor transplant a few days ago with only a 1/4 drop of oil. Runs like a new one now. I have a new pack of hand rails for it that I have had for years that I need to install.

I hate to nitpick, but that locomotive is a GP 38-2. 🙄

Not sure if you'll consider a trolley as a locomotive but we don't have a Trolley of the week. Found this little bugger at a swap show at a church. Guy wanted $3, said I could have it for $1 plus he threw in a dummy Bachmann trolley. I asked if it ran and a Boy Scout at the booth said it ran great. Kid was right! Not bad for $0.50. My question is who made it?

Looks like a Mantua. That looks like their MU2 motor through the windows.

Yeah, looks like an old Mantua/Tyco trolley from the 60’s. Very cool find for that price! I have one of these buggers but it’s a bit newer (from the brown box era). Just don’t run it for too long (the motor gets hot on mine) and your’s should be a great little runner. The Beal Street trolley seems to first appear in the 1962 Tyco catalog and last appears (from what I can tell) in the 1967 Tyco catalog.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

Cool, thanks for the info! I finally have my trolley line up and running. This little guy will be run along with a Bachman Witt, 2 Brills, 2 PCCs and 2 from AHM. Plus 5 dummy units and a cable car.

Looking forward to seeing it! That was the one you built, mostly scratch, on a dresser top?

Completely wrong! First if you're thinking of my 'Highway', Chops, that isn't on a dresser. This trolley line runs on an upper level of my original layout and will become an elevated line in my large city scene. Still much work to do.

It sounds like you're thinking of the layout I built several years back in the bedroom!
Here's a Tyco trolley on that layout.

Hope your loco doesn't have cracked axle gears like mine (Santa Fe - two F9s and an F7), replacement gears are impossible to find these days, which is a shame since I have never seen a Bachmann pancake motor of that era fail yet.
Cracked/broken gears, loose wheelsets, cold solder joints, missing traction tires, blown light bulbs, motor almost seized solid (bought the F7 as "dead" on eBay specifically for the gears, ended up reviving it!), but never a burnt out motor.
