I'm having similar issues as prior with AHM C-Liners, currently with recent AHM RS2/3 acquisitions. One chassis has a motor that needs full power to even move, and it creeps along the track, growling along the way. I tried oiling the gears and cleaning the brushes/commutator -- nothing worked, so I guess I'll have to scratch it up to yet another "dying" AHM motor.

I have another AHM RS2/3 chassis that despite lubing, seems to keep stopping at various places on the inner line of my layout, as if it's having wire-connection issues. IDK, I'll mess around with it later.

Does anyone have a spare AHM RS2 chassis with a functioning motor, in good health, that they would like to trade? I have a lot of train cars, locomotive shells, and parts I'm willing to offer. I already purchased an additional RS2 on Ebay to re-powere one of my first-obtained RS2's which had a dead motor. Now, I'm dealing with another motor whose days are numbered :(

Hello RP, could you post a pic of the motor and chassis?

I made a major search of the garage for the C Liner chassis and shell.
To my lasting amazement it is eluding capture. I will keep looking until
I find it!

No problem Chops.

Mike, I'll upload a photo later tonight.

I figured out the connection issue with the one RS2 chassis - the "white" wire kept slipping away just enough to lose contact with the brass piece attached to the brush on one side of the motor. Black electrical tape and some bending with needle-nose pliers did the job.

UPDATE:

Here's a photo of the chassis with the dying motor, Mike.

Tonight, upon running the Pennsy RS2 (the one with connection problems I thought I solved with electrical tape), the locomotive once more began stuttering. Taking the shell off, I noticed that due to the heat of the motor, the tape began to peel off, causing the connection problems to start once more.

So, I knew there was no other way to solve this issue besides soldering. I heated up the soldering iron, fluxed the wire and brass-brush plate, and soldered the wire directly to the brass-brush plate (removing the other interlocking brass piece the wire was attached to at the first. The locomotive now runs perfectly.
