I got this mega fun Tyco T Rex off eBay for a song. It was part of a
Jurassic Park set. Man, they don't make 'em like that anymore.
I thought Tyco folded up in 1993, so I was surprised to see
"Tyco 1997" stamped on the base.

Tyco was bought out by Mattel in March 27 1992
but is defunct as of the 2010s

only the trains were all discontinued in 1993

Mantua survives as being part of the Model Power line

That's interesting, so I guess the Tyco imprint, which was dated as 1997,
kept going under the Tyco Brand?

yeah
I think Mattel sold off the race tracks to others

Boy would I love to buy the Tyco name from Mattell!

The biggest seller for Tyco was the Tickle Me Elmo

I had no idea Tyco was involved with that Elmo thing. At the time, I
thought it was the stupidest thing ever, but that's what I thought about
the internet and cell phones when they first came out.
