fresh on the heels of Strenchin's magnificent box cab, I have this uber nice Varney Aerotrain shell, but am having trouble figuring out how I might power it.
1. an MU2 motor, rigid? It might seem the short wheel base would accommodate an 18 inch curve, right?
2. is there an off the shelf power truck that would fit fairly easily? The plastic is vintage, and will not tolerate much finagling.
Any suggestions welcome.

I think Hobbytown of Boston made a conversion kit to power this model. Finding one to purchase will be a challenge though.
If I were to take on this project I would start with an Athearn SW 1500 mechanism with Flexicoil B truck side frames. To do it my way you would need to alter the Varny shells which you may not want to do, but if you want a model that looks good and operates properly it might be the best option.
At any rate it sounds like a fun project! Good Luck!!

I know they're pricey, but why not go with a Stanton Drive from Northwest Shortline? I hear the version with metal gears is the way to go.

I'll look that up, Weekend, thanks. I am wondering if I need to go to the trouble to have the lead power truck swivel? If a rigid power truck on a Tyco Switcher can negotiate curves...
...I looked up that Stanton drive, yep, that's pricey. I like the single swivel post, that makes it so easy to mount even I could do it.
