Carrying over from Brian4321's awesome post of a NIB Tyco passenger set in box,
that piece may be fine just as it is, with a little lubrication, and if the traction
tires arent dried out and the motor is an MU2.

Myself, I love my old F unit PC Tyco's, but I tend to be a bit demanding on them, so
I found a quick and easy solution:

Using a common pair of pliers, I twisted off the interior plastic shell sprues, then
bent off the zinc chassis front coupler tab, and two of the smaller side mount
tabs and simply slotted the Tyco shell onto this Mantua 8 wheel drive chassis.

In the video "Silver Meteor," I did the same thing with an old Athearn BB
F unit chassis, seen in the video "Silver Meteor" posted under "AHM and all
the other great brands," and loose ends. In the latter, it was necessary to dispense
with the huge interior weight and replace it with some smaller slab weights. Now
it's a fine running Tyco Conrail.

Wow,It's good to see someone else is doing this! I though that some purists would cringe at doing modifications like these but hey, these are plentiful and still inexpensive. I'll have to post some pix of my re-motored TYCO diesels. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting craftsmanship, Chops. For me, I like my Tyco trains (both "Red Box Era" and "Brown Box Era") in their purest state - with the only work I perform ranging from maintenance to traction tires.

Nevertheless, customization for better performance has always fascinated me, and nice job to those of you who do it.

I plead necessity, rather than craftsmanship, of which I possess little, but
thanks. RP, you've done fairly well at keeping your Tyco fleet running
rather well, with the one fire you had. I swear after a hundred or so
yards of running, all of my PT's either slipped their pinion gears or
blew gray smoke out of the windows!
