I started another kitbash project. As promised, I'd show what I got the parts for. I started a similar build years ago but never got it beyond the motor install. Didn't have the know how and tools. Decided I'll do it now as I have both. I used the Tyco 2-8-0 for it's boiler, valve gear and weight/smoke unit. It's a lead alloy and not plastic like seen in the 0-8-0. I used a Tyco 0-8-0 frame as it's a solid frame and not a C channel like the one used on the 2-8-0. I also got the 0-8-0 smoke box door. The motor and gears came from a Mantua 0-4-0T. The tender is a Rivarossi 0-8-0 unit.Â

I am impressed. I wish I had half the talent you show here. Are you still OTR? I am still hoping you will get down to Old El Paso.

Mantua used to have a consolidation that is almost what you're kitbashing your way to, but I've only seen diagrams and parts lists, not the real thing. This is a nice, resourceful way to get something that's otherwise not very available.

Boiler assembly now fits the new frame and power. I notched the bottom piece to clear and to stay off the motor. I then cut the boiler back head piece off. Next, I cut the weight to clear. I gutted the smoke unit parts first. I then cut the middle pieces out and set the end piece to the side. I glued the middle pieces up high. Clears everything nicely and is balanced. I may go back and add some more lead. Not sure yet. I'll make a new bracket for the cab area so I can screw it done to frame to avoid a teetering effect

I've seen a few. Didn't like it much. Mantua chopped down the 2-8-2 frame and put the Tyco boiler on it. Put the first driver under the smoke box. Didn't like it. They later on sold a 0-8-0 based on the Tyco parts. Except now a Mantua frame and 0-4-0/0-6-0 drivers. I considered it as well. Runs better but hard to find.
