Thanks, guys, for the complements on the trucks!!
Also, nice suggestion yardmaster.
Highwayman, I fully understand -- so I guess these 2 Tyco trucks will be racing trucks and unable to pull a load.
Which begs the question to anyone who is aware, apparently Tyco produced slot trucks that were seperate from their US1 line, yes? Because both of these latest additions to RETRO TYCO's slot track are purely Tyco.....

RP,
Please accept my apologies, for unintentionally misleading you:
Having just dug out my magnetic rigs and trailers and then compared them to each other and US-1 I realised that my memory was playing tricks on me...
Picture one shows from left to right - Aurora, Tyco Magnetic and Tyco US-1 Rigs and the coupling arrnagements on the corresponding trailers.

As can be seen the Tyco US-1 and Non-US-1 trailers have the same coupling arrangement. The hole on the US-1 rig and the Tyco Magnetic Rig is the same size and they are therefore interchangeable. The Tyco Non-US-1 rig has only got pick ups and a guide pin at the front though, so it is not reversible. Also there is no guideway on the coupling, so automatic coupling to the trailer is not possible. I think that this rig is essentially the same as yours?
It was the narrow pin of the Aurora arrangement that I was thinking of when I replied yesterday. Sorry!
The next image shows the trailing bogies of the same three trailers:

Next image shows the bogies of the three tailers. Both Tyco trailers have two guide pegs and the non-US-1 verion has magnets too. The Aurora one has no magnet and only one peg, but the bogie has limited rotation, which coupled with the two guide pins on the tractor means that this can be reversed, but it won't couple or uncouple remotely.
I don't have any tractors that can't take trailers, apart from the Ideal one I mentioned earlier, but yes, both the Tyco Non-US-1 verion and the Aurora ones are for racing!.
Hope this helps and apologies again for my error yesterday.
James

No problem, James. This stuff can get pretty confusing. And...thank you for the great info on Tyco US1, non-US1, and Aurora tractor-trailers.

However, herein lies the confusing part - your Kodak? Tyco non-US1 truck has a bigger pin-hole than both of my Tyco non-US1 Peterbilts.....(please see photo above) and the skinny pin-holes on my 2 Tyco non-US1 rigs look like they would better accommodate an Aurora trailer.....and do not work with Tyco US1 trailers (they don't have to work like going in reverse, or automatically-detaching - it's just that the trailer's pin won't even fit in the hole..)
Please Advise.
ALSO, here's an Ebay auction for a truck that is identical to my latest yellow one - check out the small pin-hole: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Tyco-US-1-Electric-Trucking-Orange-Semi-HO-Slot-Car-FREE-SHIPPING/163103604349?hash=item25f9bb7e7d:g:0y8AAOSwDrVbJ51p#shpCntId

RP, Well I used to be uncertain, but now I am not so sure. OK I admit it, I am all out of knowledge to help. I guess there must be another version, but the next question is whether this came before or after the ones I have.... We need my chum Doug to try to resolve this - He knows these trucks inside and out……… James

I don't think so James. You're doing a really good job here :-)
Pukka US Trucking Peterbilt tractor units do NOT have plastic third wheel assemblies, nor the facilities to take them. I.E. three holes on the flat horizontal area behind the sleeper, one for the central rivet and two smaller for alignment pins.
ALL other Peterbilt cabs -- those with plastic fifth wheels - are 'racers' not haulers.
The different sized holes in the plastic fifth wheels are age-related.
There are small holes in the early trucks plastic fifth wheels. These were contemporary with, or followed on briefly after, the US Trucking range at the time and were usually on HP7 or earlier chassis.
Large hole plastic fifth wheels came much later with proper racing rigs. These were mounted on 440X2 chassis and came with the Harley Davidson, Kodak, Du Pont, Goodwrench and KMart box trailers. There were matching NASCARs and a matching motorbike.
The earlier small fifth wheel hole can be drilled out. Remove the body from the chassis to do so.
Likewise, ANY of the plastic fifth wheels can be removed by drilling out the retaining rivet and the Peterbilt bodies sans fifth wheel can then be fitted on the appropriate US-1 chassis with diecast fifth wheel. I prefer to do this as the US-1 chassis brings all the functionality required to run and operate a Trucking 'service'.
There are further nuances on this but few and far between and I'd have to dig into my collection to find the odd exception.
One I've come across with the diecast fifth wheels is that the majority have blind holes to take the trailer pin BUT a very small few have holes right through the casting. I don't know why, as the trailer pins are all the same length as far as I've found.
The only thing I can think of is MAYBE it was a money saving exercise? Fractions of gramms of metal saved per unit but over thousands it could add up?

Further to this, ALL Kenworth cabovers were US-1 Trucking only.
However, you may find 'used' items on eBay, etc. retro-fitted with later racing chassis by their enthusiastic previous owners.
Obvious by the fact there will be no diecast fifth wheel.

Just did a quick count and there were 10 Peterbilt cab units relesed in the US Trucking lineup - but 17 released as racers with plastic fifth wheels.
If it helps - as far as I can see - unbelievably there was only one colourway released in both lines - on a diecast fifth wheel US Trucking chassis and a 'racing' version on a Curve Hugger chassis with plastic fifth wheel.
That was the yellow cab with horizontal red and orange stripes around the hood, doors and sleeper bed and centrally along the hood top.

Amazing info! Thank you, James and Doug! Now that I know the history behind them.....I'm sort of appreciating the trucks for what they were originally made as, racing trucks, as opposed to being tractors for trailers.
One last thing....I noticed some contact issues that occurred while both trucks were operating on RETRO TYCO's slot track -- sometimes they would hesitate, or other times they would completely stop. Then, I analyzed the bottoms of both trucks and each one had a left pick-up shoe with a slotted-hole in it. Getting a burst of initiative, I transferred one good pick-up shoe from the yellow truck to the blue one, so as to get 2 good pick-up shoes on the blue Peterbilt rig, and then upon testing it once more, it ran like a charm!
Are these the proper replacement pick-up shoes for these trucks, because if so, then I will need them: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tyco-Contacts-Pickup-Shoes-Stainless-Steel-for-longer-life-HO-slot-car/323300560566?_trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D52473%26meid%3D09ad3611471643ca92c62fd971f2e807%26pid%3D100

Can't tell which pickups you need without seeing the underside of the chassis. Those you show are for a late 440X2 chassis but your baby blue Peterbilt is most Likely on a Curvehugger chassis - quite different. Photos of the undersides please.

P.S. Check all the left hand rails at the joints on your track to see if there's a rail sitting proud. The pickups 'should' be wearing evenly.

There's a photo of the undersides of both (credit to Ebay seller.) I do believe both trucks would be considered "curve-huggers" and both already had wear "slot holes" in the left pick-up shoes when I received them, so I know it couldn't be my slot track.
Of course, not knowing that much about slot cars, I ignored these holes, until a lightbulb of discovery went off when I began experiencing contact issues in operation.....

Yes, those are the right pickups - and with a 'money back guarantee' you shouldn't go wrong with them. Be careful not to lose the springs from under the existing pickups when you change them - and keep the holed orignals to use as a pattern for final finessing of those hand made items.

Doug,
Thank you for answering and sharing your knowledge with us all.
You mention the 10 different US-1 Peterbilts.....
Dare I suggest a topic on that, with illustrations?
Presumably the variations make that number considerably higher?

UPDATES:

Received these 3 awesome Tyco US1 trailers in the mail today....I got the Car Carrier trailer for $15.00 even with free shipping, and both the Roadway & Red Line Trucking trailers as a pair for close to $30.00. I personally think I got good deals on these 3 trailers from Ebay...beings that just one can go for anywhere between $15.00 - $40.00, or more (as in the case with tanker trailers.)

First of all, I equipped my Car Carrier with 4 Tyco '80's era Mustangs....and the only truck it pairs with is my only "official" US1 Peterbilt -- the yellow/orange with black stripes one.

Now...if anyone was thinking I would settle for 2 of my Tyco Peterbilt slot trucks to be incompatible with US1 trailers, you were completely wrong. This evening, contrary to my former fears, I took the battery-operated drill and using the proper-sized bit, I VERY CAREFULLY drilled the pin holes in the back of my 2 Tyco slot trucks larger, and used a scalpel to protect the drill bit from striking the gears beneath. The result was a complete success, and although I do need to wait for new pickup shoes for the yellow Peterbilt, the blue one w. black stripes is now performing excellently at hauling trailers. Yahoo!!

What do you guys think? I think the drill job worked very well, in fact, even better and quicker than I expected.

Good work and neatly done, but you can always unclip the body if you need to drill any more.
What lovely images!
What a nice collection too.
Those brown crates are nice too. Not got any of those, yet.......
How do you find the speeds of the Magnetic rigs versus the US-1 versions? I ask as aroadway fan rather than a racer....

Thank you, James, for your complements on both my craftsmanship and photos!! I have found that the magnetic Peterbilts tend to run a bit faster, and slightly quieter, than the US1 versions, but other than that, I haven't seen too much of a difference.

Thanks RP!
The only downside I find is that magnetic slot cars can tend to 'bog down' on the contact rails and often need to have a higher speed to get them going. On the 1/24 scale cars that we run with the LGB I have taken all the magnets off so that they can run slowly enough to look good. On HO scale models this is not possible, as the traction magnet is often the motor magnet as well.
Doug hase shown me that on some HO chassis the magnet can be set higher, to reduce the adhesion. I like to keep my cars and truck reasonably slow, so this is something I need to explore some more.
Today I am tinkering vith vintage Playcraft and Aurora - No magnets there!

Thank you, Chops!! I agree, these vintage US1 slot trailers by Tyco are something else.
Hmmm, yes, I have experienced that too, James -- particularly with my 2 Tyco Peterbilts in question. I find it interesting that in some slot vehicle models, these magnets can be removed, while in others, they are essential. To each manufacturer their own, I suppose.

UPDATE:
Received the new Tyco "Curve-Hugger" pick-up shoes in the mail today, and installed 2 of them on the yellow striped Peterbilt truck which was in need. With these new pick-up shoes, the truck now runs superbly on RETRO TYCO's slot track!
Also, I got this awesome blue&silver Tyco slot Dump Truck in the mail today too - which thanks to Ebay's "offer" option, was snagged before anyone could bid for about $27.00. I believe that this was an excellent price, considering this version of the slot Dump Truck is a bit harder to find. With a bit of lube, and 2 new tires, this Dump Truck is running very well! Stay tuned for it to be featured in a future video.

UPDATE:
Here's another "new" video of action on RETRO TYCO, entitled "TYCO Train & Slot Truck Action." Within you will be able to see both a Rock Island "Shark" hauling a load of signature billboard cars, and 2 Tyco slot trucks operating at the same time on the "TYCO SPEEDWAY" -- my decided name, for now, for RETRO TYCO's slot track. By the way, thank you for all of the suggestions, everyone. And, I am not quite sure if this will be the final name, so....Enjoy the video, and please inform me of your thoughts.
Yes, the train, and 2 slot trucks are all running at the same time in this video -- one of which is the latest addition to the Tyco slot vehicle roster, the blue&silver dump truck.

UPDATE:

Okay....ON YOUR MARK...GET SET...GO!! I just received these 4 awesome Tyco racing slot vehicles today in the mail, and could not wait to post them on the TF. All were obtained from the same seller last Sunday evening, (whereupon I bid upon each, and received surprisingly no rivalry) - between the prices of $14 - $17 each, with the truck being the most expensive, clocking in over 17 bucks. All run super well, and I cannot wait to feature them in future action videos aboard TYCO SPEEDWAY.
First up, a Tyco black Porsche 935.

Next, a brilliant Tyco HP-7 type Peterbilt racing truck -- will probably need a new shell in the future, since this one has some minute yellowing. :( The lights work too.

Tyco yellow&black CJ-7 Jeep

Lastly, a Tyco red Dodge Viper Convertible

I think all of these make splendid additions to my Tyco slot car collection, and each one was obtained at an excellent price, with a great combined shipping cost. What do you guys think???

UPDATE:
YES! I now have my very own Tyco slot fire truck, made for the US1 series. This Mack "MR" model ladder truck is highly-detailed, and runs well, with a fully operating light bar and bell-siren. As a train and fire buff, I am really excited to have a piece of both Tyco, and model firefighting, history. Stay tuned for a future video featuring the Tyco Mack "MR" ladder truck.
Close to the real deal, note that this fire truck has an extra tandem. (Photo Credit Entirely to Original Photographer)

Loving this thread!
Didn't realise those little hollow brightly coloured cars cars were Mustangs! That is not how I think of Mustangs- Where's the muscle?

Not much of a car buff, James, but I do recollect the 1980's Mustang- it was a real piece of junk in typical Detroit style of basically upgrading an Escort with a larger engine. Strangely, it had a certain following, why I don't know. A buddy, Crusty the Engineer, had one that was literally falling to pieces, and sold the ruddy thing for $2000. I thought he would be lucky to get $200 in scrap for it.

Hey RP, heads up--you may already know about this, but just in case--Joe's Train Station in Feasterville is moving to Hatboro (closer to you), and they have a few cases of Aurora, US-1, and other slot car/truck stuff. They should be opening at their new place in a week or two I think--I just caught them moving out some of the last stuff from the current location a few days ago. New location is 283 E County Line Road in Hatboro.

Thanks for informing me, PRR4800! I actually had no clue, prior to today.
Yes, IK Microbusss, I have about 4-5 of them, in different schemes.

UPDATE:
I received 2 Tyco slot trucks a couple days ago in the mail, but amidst my working schedule, I just got the chance to run them on Tyco Speedway Today!! On your mark, get set.....
Up first, this nice red&white striped Peterbilt truck. The seller said that the gray color of the horns/bumper etc. rather than chrome silver made this particular truck scarce, but after receiving it, I am a bit in doubt as to whether the detailing is factory-made, or custom. I definitely know the truck is genuine...but the gray details???
This mint red Dump Truck was the 2nd one obtained from the same seller, at a great price. It already featured 2 new drive tires, and runs very well. Both of these are awesome additions to my rapidly growing Tyco slot vehicle collection.

HEY everybody! So glad the Tyco Forum is back!! Please enjoy the latest additions to RETRO TYCO:
One of the gifts I received from my parents for my 17th Birthday was an Ebay giftcard. Logically, I couldn't wait to blow it (rather invest) on Tyco Trains!
I finally got the Tyco Chiquita 62' express reefer....in mint condition and with original box, for $15.00 shipped.
Very excited about this find - the Ajax Covered Hopper! These cars, in good shape, go for $20.00 and above on Ebay, but I stumbled across a buy-it-now for $18.00 shipped. Snagged it.
The Baby Ruth High-Cube box car with Tyco's "Chug-Chug" mechanism - purchased this for $8.00, shipped, in original box and practically new condition.
The Wilson Foods promo car - this one was only released in a special Wilson Foods Train Set by Tyco, and is quite rare. I found this listing on Ebay but originally deferred to buy it because of the price. However, after several months of continued searches and no others of its kind even listed, I purchased it for $19.00 shipped. This is a little pricey to me, for a train car, but considering that it's scarce, I think I made the right choice.
What do you guys think?
Lastly, enjoy the newest video of action on RETRO TYCO: Tyco Billboard Mania

Hard to find those Ajax with such nice graphics. Maybe a light over spray of clear gloss coat would preserve them?

Yeah, I know - similar to the Morton Salt and Domino Sugar covered hoppers....I do recall others using clear spray to preserve the designs, but in Tyco purist attitude, I'm just going to be extremely careful in order to keep all cars as they were originally produced by Tyco.

I finally have it - the scarce Tyco Maxwell House 50' box car, in mint condition with its original box!!!!! I'm very excited since I've been seeking the Maxwell House car since my interest in Tyco officially began over 2 years ago and although there have been many listings on Ebay, all have gone off for $40.00 or more. I recently stumbled across an auction going off at 1am, and since the car was still at a reasonable price, I put in a max and discovered in the morning that I had won this car for $26.00. Now, that is rather expensive in my opinion, but considering the car is in practically new condition and the original box with label is intact, I think that this price was quite good.

The Maxwell House car is featured in one of my latest videos, entitled: "Silver Streak" ALCO C430 Express

LOL, and I need the Maxwell House hopper busss. Trade?
This afternoon, my Dad and I visited the local Harbor Freight store and amongst finding tools at great sale prices, I purchased a sturdy plastic 4-level shelf for only 13 bucks, and at home, assembled it, and placed it to the left of RETRO TYCO. It now serves to store/display all of my Tyco cars dedicated to RETRO TYCO, alleviating space in the center of the layout for a possible small "Tyco Town." We shall see......
