Well, for some time now I've modeled my interest in paleontology. Latest edition is a cloned Wooly Mammoth who has got loose from the laboratory.
On a serious note, the reason why mammoths are subject of interest in the cloning world is that their DNA is sort of fresh frozen (albeit 35 to 50 thousand years old) thus making them more likely candidates for recreation using Asian elephants as surrogate mothers.
Incidentally, 65,000, 000 year old DNA has been recovered from a Montana T Rex specimen at UNC. This was previously thought to be impossible as all protein should have theoretically degraded or otherwise mineralized. Shattered like ancient china, that DNA cannot be cloned, but it did give up data that it was from a pregnant female T Rex!!

Is cloning controversial? Let us just leave it at: yep. Other than that, paleontology is almost as much fun as Tyco!
