Start off this week with a kit-bashed Rivarossi 4-4-0 William Crooks loco.

This loco will be pulling the Binkley cars on the layout.

Oldtimer, I'd like to see some smoke coming out of that Rivarossi loco.
Here is my LOTW, a Gilbert HO 4-6-4 Hudson that I picked up on eBay. Other than a cracked whitewall, it is in super condition and runs like a charm. I'm going to search this forum for repair info and start a new topic if I can't find anything.

I would too. The smoke unit would melt the plastic and besides, the stack is held on with a screw which also holds on the headlight.

Glad to see some guys steamed up already about LOTW, but I'm going to "electrify" the conversation with my contribution. I've been wanting to do this for awhile, last Sunday I dug out a Rivarossi GG1 to see if I could digitize it. I took it to my train shop, and started looking it over. Unfortunately, the motor truck was going to be near impossible to isolate, but fortunately both front and rear 2-wheel trucks had contacts, and were opposed. I ended up running the Decoder wires through the lightbulb contact rivet holes, and soldered them to the axle contacts front and rear. Works great! Can't wait to try it out. I have some Bachmann Amfleet cars, which apparently Amtrak used behind the GG1 , so it will be prototypical more or less. At any rate, I still need to figure out about the lighting, whether to go LED or keep the bulbs ( original GG1's were yellowish lights, so the bulbs would be fine with me ). But it's closer to running on electronics than before. Here she is :

That's one gorgeous GG1!
My LOTW is a Tyco BN E7. I think the green and silver looks sharp. Now all I need are some bi-level cars

Awesome contributions, everyone!! That Amtrak GG1 is amazing! Whoa - awesome BN E7, Redwoods!!
Here's my LOTW offering:
Time to go back to good ole' Tyco.....and Diesel Power.

On behalf of the Ephrata Valley Railroad, I'm pleased to announce the latest locomotive addition - Tyco's USA Express Alco C430 #4301. This was actually from a buy-it-now listing I placed on the Tyco Forum some time ago last year, for any interested members to take advantage of; but after stumbling across the same listing once more about 2 weeks ago, seeing it was still available..........I snagged it. Using my last NIP handrail set, I installed metal handrails on the C430 (my current best handrailing project), lubed the PT motor with Liberty Oil, and then installed Stewart traction tires which I obtained at the train show under $1.00, since the second-drive wheel kept being disagreeable with the Goody's hairband traction tires.
The USA Express C430 is perfoming well on the inner line of the layout - currently hauling all 5 of my triple-dome tankers, with the hopes of hauling 8 by the end of next week. ;)

Very nice pickup Brian. Did you get the whistle control with it? The 446 is one of my favorite Gilbert Hudson's... What is the date inside of yours? The latest ones I've come across in my 36 years of collecting Gilbert HO are September 1957. Three of them had aluminum drivers and pulmor instead of the whitewall drivers/no pulmor. (I still own one, the other two have gone to other collectors)
What repair info are you looking for? There's not too much here or anywhere else for that matter on repairing the Gilbert steam or diesel engines but they're fairly simple. If you have any questions or need any advise, pm me and I'll give you my number and I can let you know anything you need.

bad71burb,
The 446 is my favorite too. The speaker in tender provides such realistic sound for an engine from that era.
I popped the top off and saw that it is stamped Sep 1957.
I'll PM you in regards to repairs.

Thanks Chops!
Microbusss, I will keep my eyes out for a USA Express C430, for you. I have seen that mock-up USA Express caboose posted here...and just wish it was actually made!
