Is it pretty easy to swap bodies on the Tyco/Mantua lighted caboose, or are any of the electrical parts connected to the inside of the body?

Thanks. I understand that, but I have other lighted cars in which parts that house the wiring are connected in part to the shell. I wanted to make sure this is easy to switch. It sounds like it is.

While the caboose bodies look the same, some have different size locking tabs that hold them to the underframes. I'm sure it's related to the relative age of the model. You may have to do a little trimming. Also some do not have ladder notches in the roof, I've had to notch them with an x-cato knife before.

Time Warp was right. I looked closely at both cars. The lighted caboose is from the metal Mantua era, and the unlighted one is from the 70s shiny plastic era. The locking tabs are indeed different.

| I'd like to find a lighted one, haven't seen one in a long time. They go back a while I think.

If you want a lighted caboose, instead of using the older, hard to find Mantua metal frame, buy a searchlight car, and you can swap any of the later era Tyco bodies to it. I've done it myself to create a lighted caboose, to see if I could do it. The underframes are pretty much the same, just the shorty caboose body is different. I took a red and yellow searchlight car, and put a Rocky Mountian caboose body on it, with little difficulty. Got to run the wiring inside differently but it's fairly simple.
