So, you know that freelance 4-8-4 I've talked about doing? I'm finally getting down to business on that. Here's what I've got to start with:

The tender is the one I had scratchbuilt for my Mantua Pacific but which got supplanted by a factory tender. The chassis and motor are from a very early Bachmann 4-8-4. The axles are still in great shape, as is the motor (I have actually given it a test run, and the only time it had trouble was when crossing dirty spots on the track). The gears in this boxy sidewinder appear to be either metal or fully-filled plastic (not the infamous split-prone semitransparent plastic), can anyone confirm which?
The loco body is going to look quite similar to a GS4, but it will be distinct.

| Keep us updated. I love the GS-4s myself. I really want to pick up a Lionel HO one.
