Starting this off with the result of a convoluted trade.
Bought a box of Flyer and Triang track for $20 at my last show (I wanted a battery powered diesel in the box). Traded the Flyer stuff plus $20 for a Marx HO battery set. Guy I bought the battery set off of is a Tyco collector. Told him I was looking for a Silver Streak. He has one, says he'll bring it to his booth in our local flea market and I can get it for $30. So at this point, I owe him $50.
Told him to come by my table adn sold him an On30 set for $60, so I ended up getting $10 out of the deal.
So... my LOTW is a Silver Streak. It was my first "real" electric train and has some sentimental value there. Plus it's just cool. (Got the Caboose and a couple chrome tankers too)

Thanks Ken! Turns out the motor sits on a pivot mount that allows adjustments. Was sitting up to high to engage.

Ah, the classic Silver Streak. A great memory. Was that a take-off on the Gene Wilder film of the same name?? BTW, I'd love to see the whole set of the chrome tankers and the caboose together. That would be a great fantasy Tyco SOTW.
Great steam exhibition. I really like those 0-6-0's. They appear to be when manufacturers were starting to make high scale offerings.
My LOTW this week is an Athearn BB F unit making her daily wage. Pulled a 15 car drag of assorted Bachmann's like a walk in the park. She never broke a sweat. I really like those Blue Box Athearn locomotives.

Back with the steam, this is ANOTHER Oriental Limited/ Samhongsa hybrid. #8000 un-decorated Light Mikado. This was in a "junk" box, but more like a gift basket. A fine runner, and a great puller. Evan

My LOTW is the Canadiana Alco 430. Definitely one of the coolest schemes they ever made for it. This one was a shell when I bought it. I repowered it with a MU-2 and applied some fresh handrails to it.

One of the rarest Mantua's out there.......least as far as their 70s-90s production goes. This one was a one year only (1981) release. And after years of searching finally found one. Hooker Chemical 0-4-0T Booster seen with my new athearn hooker chemical tank car.

It was only a couple years ago, a Varney Joe with full valve gear and a Sakura were each fetching $180-$220. Lately however, it has been difficult to get $80 for the Varney and over $100 for the Sakura.
I have a few good Varney chassis with all steps to swap with this one, however when I looked close, I can see this is a first generation chassis and the valve gear is not Central Valley, (Probably because the chassis pre-dates the availability of the CV gear)
The brush on the back side of the rear driver is the only contact point and is the dead giveaway for the earlier chassis. I might just repair the steps and call it a day with this one.

That Irishman dude has been auctioning off so really nice stuff lately. <Currently has all of the Deluxe F7As with the screw down MU-2 unit. Might try to get another one to complement my CN F7A.>
I would swap the trucks out on that Canadiana but I like the GP-20 trucks better. I am no stickler for realism. If I wanted to put it back to the original Alco PowerTorque I could. Also nice chrome roof Streak. I need to get one to match my red roof one. It's hard to find them with the chrome in perfect condition though. Yours looks really good!
That hooker 0-4-0 is really nice. The orange paint scheme looks really neat.

Yes. Within the last maybe 5 years that's the second one I've ever seen on eBay. $75 for the practically brand new condition it's in with the box? Can't complain! Been looking for YEARS for it.

It has to be custom or a prototype. Tyco never made an Amtrak GP-20(I wish they did :/) If it's custom then the person who painted it in those Amtrak colors did a very nice job. Looks factory to me! Also nice 4301 number boards. Does anyone have any factory examples of 4301 'boards showing up on geeps? I know 5628 boards made it to the Alcos but I haven't seen any vice versa.
The chrome roof can be easily overlooked. I can't decide on which version I like better.

Well I went out to see my friend in Long Valley NJ today. After doing a few little things to help him, he showed me he's recent E-bay finds. He is trying to get some interesting things for the train shows. First thing he shows me is a Aristo-Craft mountain. Needless to say it will see no train show. He had a complete Gilbert Hudson. The old 6volt one. the first one they made. It even had its reversing unit in the tender. I tested it and heard it clicking. The lettering is all good and clear. Well today I'll post my new 4-8-2. Sean check out the road name. frank

Hi Ken ! Your Mantua fleet is growing. How would one look with a set of smoke deflectors on it, and the frame and pilot also in red. I have seen the Chinese Mikado painted that way. With grease and oil all over the nice red paint the engineer and fireman would have all they could do to keep the frame and wheels clean. frank

I was under the impression that item was made by Tyco! Turns out it's a Mantua! I need to do some more reading on those catalogs to sharpen my knowledge! My favorite paint scheme I saw on there was the SPSF Kodachrome merger. I'll definitely keep an eye out for that one. Anyways nice GP-20.
