Digging into the past, a D&RG F7 Hi-F by Athearn. Got this at a show some years ago, still haven't done anything with it. Plenty of projects , I have. Plenty of time, I have not. sigh. Jerry

Two views of a NOS Pemco L&N Alco underway at the El Paso Model Train Club. I have never heard of Pemco. Maker's stamp says made in "Hong Kong." It has a motor and drive eerily similar to a Tyco PT. Two axle drive, but it pulls very nicely. Had it out of the box for its maiden voyage late last week. Seen here powered up.
Nice piece, Gremlin. I really look forward to seeing her resurrected. The white walls on that Navy Yard piece are terrific. Is that a Marx?

Jerry, looking at your F7, I see that mine is slightly different. The trucks on my recent arrival attach with screws, up through the chassis, and into removable Hi-F drive shaft posts. I wonder which version came first? My guess would be, more parts first, less parts later.

Just got this pair in the mail, along with the trainset. Rivarossi E8 powered and dummy pair lettered for American Orient Express. They are a bit banged up but still look quite nice.

I'm pretty sure that's a Lionel HO, Gear drive to both axles, same body as Athearn.

Pemco was around in the 80's, I'm not sure when they left the market but they also had a nice looking GG1 that had a cheapie type drive. Could you post a picture of the motor/ drive setup? Cox had some Tyco clone GP 20's for a while. Might be similar.

Those are some good looking engines Thomas. Are you planning on installing DCC on them?

I'm going to try, but only one engine is powered, and on that only one truck is powered, on which only two axles are powered (I'm not sure what Rivarossi was thinking when they designed that power truck ). I have a spare Proto2000 E unit chassis so I might just end up using that. The train is 6 cars long and I'm not sure the single-trucker will be able to pull it up my 2.5% grades.

Yes it is a 1958 Lionel Ho locomotive. The Lionel # for it isn't 51 as on the model but 0570 as in the catalog. I just thought it would be nice for people to see a US Navy locomotive made in HO. It doesn't run right now. It has a Athearn style Hi-Fi drive in it. That is what the first Hustler's released by lionel had. I have found info on that from a major Lionel expert. When the Athearn Loco was used and the Lionel L applied, the 2 made this way both used Hi FI drives. That would be this 0570 Navy Yard loco, and the 0560 D&RG with snow plow. Both were complete Athearn locos with all Athearn parts. frank

I have a pair of CRI&P E8 units with a dummy B. THey make for a great set with the matching cars. The only problem is that the one unit cannot pull more that 4 cars on a very short grade. It barely makes it with the other powered A though. THey look way cool though so I will try my best to dcc them.

Well you can add another power truck to the powered one and get another frame that is powered, and even double power it also.
Or you can get a Hobbytown E8 powered chassis and pull everything. frank

I added a little something extra. A video of the Hustler, Navy yard Loco 51 pulling a small freight,( it runs now) and a Lionel Husky, M&StL 0055 pulling another freight. The name Hustler is on the Athearn Navy loco, and the name Husky is one given to the small diesels by Lionel. frank

Hmm, sounds like we should start a Pemco Forum! Seriously though, one of the links showed and interesting little spread of Pemco, and that the company didn"t last too long. The similarity to Tyco is very suspicious. I wonder if they were trying to cash in on Tyco's bandwagon? I'd like to see a post of that CN box you got.

It nags at my mind that I saw something to the effect that Pemco was founded by some former Tyco employees, but I can't remember specifically enough to be really sure. Does anyone here have further information?

You probably read it here:
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,451099
I have a Pemco 2-6-0 and 0-4-0 and they are both nice runners. The 2-6-0 is tender powered and is actually quite smooth.
