Tyco glow-in-the-dark tip hopper. This section of the Tyco Expander Layout substitutes for the coal tipple in the original plan.

Nice car! I just got a Tyco Scenes brochure yesterday from the train shop. Very good shape. Anyway, my COTW is a NC caboose, unknown maker. No markings on the botton, has body-mount couplers. Never seen this one before. So I'm doing a COTW / ID needed post here. LOL.

Looks like an Athearn...and those are Athearn trucks...I'd call it an Athearn caboose until I heard otherwise.

Yes, a quick Googly search confirms it IS an Athearn. Looking at the trucks, yeah, that should have been a giveaway too. My CN collection continues to grow...unintentionally for the most part. :)

Rust on the axles, must be pretty vintage. Why they didn't mark the bottom is another question. Also, the underframes of Athearns usually have an air reservoir and a bit more detail to the frame, no?

I don't think any of my BB Athearns are marked as Athearn. I'm not an Athearn expert Chops, and I agree that on first glance at the bottom it doesn't have that Athearn BB 'look' (meaning the exposed weight under the plastic framework of the chassis). So I'm making a guess that it is an early model that preceded the common BB construction. I would like to see some definitive documentation to put the question to rest though. Jerry, what did you get from your Google search that confirmed it was an Athearn?

I did some more looking, went to HOseeker and poked around MDC Roundhouse and Athearn. All I could find in any of the MDC catalogs he had posted was the Roundhouse Old-Timer caboose. I looked on Athearn and found this diagram that answers my original question regarding the usual BB method of the exposed weight. It shows the weight above the floor, and it matches what I can see on Jerry's photos. So combined with the Athearn trucks and a pretty common Athearn-looking shell, I'm calling it a definite Athearn (for now anyway lol). http://hoseeker.net/athearninstructionscars1960/Standardcaboose50.jpg
