I saw these on ebay recently and was wondering if they are legit Tyco variations. The Weaver train looks like it has paper stickers on it and the Seasons Greeting one I have never seen. The Seasons Greeting one looks real and bidding is almost up to $100 so wondering if people are just foolishly bidding on customs or they know something I dont.

The Weaver piece looks like someone put "decals" on and made their own piece. Tyco had a Season Greeting box car but that's not the one I've seen over the years...

The Weaver could be a prototype but someone could have tried to"copy" Tyco

(Was Weaver owned by Sara Lee?)

The Seasons Greetings car is an uncataloged car which was supposedly given to employees at Christmas, 1977. It is legit.

The Weaver car is someone's kit bash, not Tyco

Another thing to consider in auctions is that competitiveness often overrides common sense.

Notice the Weaver car has a "return when empty" decal at lower right. That to me implies a prototype of some sort.

The Seasons Greetings Car is quite rare. The car in the auction is in fair condition, which had a negative effect on its value.

After taking a second look at the Weaver Car Ebay listing, I changed my opinion from it being a hobbyist's custom car to the possibility it could be a factory mockup.

Pro: The Weaver Car came from the same seller that listed the 1977 Employee Christmas Car. This leads to the possibility, that both cars traveled from the Tyco Plant together.

Con: Normally a preproduction factory mockup would only be decorated on one side. From the Ebay listing, it cannot be determined if the car is decorated on one or both sides. If the car was only decorated on one side, I think the seller would have mentioned it.

I don't know if anyone can say with certainty that the Weaver Car is or is not a factory prototype. I am leaning to the side that it is not.

I thought the same thing about it being a pre-production mock up. If so, someone got a steal at 9 bucks.

After looking at the Weaver car listing for the third time, it appears that the car is decorated on both sides. This increases the likelihood that the car was decorated by a hobbyist. The H in "Helping to feed you family better" has a white spot in the center of it, in the first picture. In the last picture there is no white spot on the H.
