Has anyone repowered a Tyco Talgo train locomotive? I have a Talgo shell sans original mechanism and would like to make it into a working locomotive. It looks like using an assortment of modified Athearn Blue Box drive and frame parts might work.

Using a Life-Like Proto 2000 FA2 frame and drive to repower a Tyco Talgo locomotive. Someday may do something about the paint job which was done by a previous owner. Have several more cars from eBay so will end up with a 10-11 car train.

Looks like a good fit, and likely a huge improvement too!

I like that! Great solution for power.

As for the paint job - except for the paint runs and the like, that is probably the best paint scheme I've seen on those. Obviously a warbonnet but nicely blended into the lines of the loco.

It was fairly easy to get the FA's frame to fit the Tyco shell. Had to cut a bit off of the ends and do some filing. 2 of the frame's screw holes line up almost perfectly with screw posts inside the shell.
