Long before the Bachmann E-Z App Bluetooth system, and before DCC became more common, Bachmann had what they called the "Touch-N-Go" system for HO-scale. It consisted of a battery-operated HO locomotive (mainly a GP40) and a wireless battery-operated remote control, to operate the locomotive using infrared remote technology.
It first came out in early 1988, and was still being used until some time in the mid-90s. The locomotives did not need an external power supply, and thus, it was ideal for easily operating two trains independently at the same time on a model railroad layout without the need for blocking or anything. The locomotives were your typical 80s/90s-style Bachmann GP40, with the cheap pancake motor and such; the battery case would be in the fuel tank on the bottom.
HOseeker.net has the instructions for them... http://hoseeker.net/assemblyexplosionbachmann/bachmanntouchngosystempg1.jpg http://hoseeker.net/assemblyexplosionbachmann/bachmanntouchngosystempg2.jpg http://hoseeker.net/assemblyexplosionbachmann/bachmanntouchngosystempg3.jpg
Pretty neat stuff, although DCC and the new Bluetooth locomotives have now pretty much rendered this type of system obsolete. (BlueRail Trains is making Bluetooth decoders that can make a locomotive battery-operated.)

You might want to check your image name, it's not displaying properly.

If you try to go after the image via the URL, it comes back a s 403 forbidden. Does that photo website require a logon? I'm thinking the pictures are not open to the whole internet public.

Thanks for the pictures, Ken. A little internet research didn't turn up much, but apparently, the functionality was limited to forward-stop-reverse-stop-forward-etc. One action per push of the button. If there was more control of the locomotive, it would be fun to get a few and run them on track power as a poor man's DCC system - just for the heck of it.
