Well, looks like I got another project lined up. Just won this 2 truck shay for $40. It looks like all of the parts are there (according to the instruction sheets I have) for it. It's a Roundhouse and I've been wanting a shay for a while (for under $100 that is) to add to my collection.

Nice score. What's your planned livery for it?

That is a beauty. Never knew Roundhouse to make such an item. Is the gearing suitably slow? It does appear to have that extra large gear hidden by the box beneath the undercarriage.

| Jeff, I once saw an entire book devoted to building and detailing the Roundhouse Shay. Don't recall the title, but I do recall they spent a good number of words talking about getting all those gears to work nicely.

| I built this kit about 20+ years ago. They are noisy. This past few months I have completely dismantled it and am tuning it following the instructions in Jeff Johnston's book "The MDC Shay Handbook". If you want any information, message me and I can send you some info that I have.

Not really sure right now. Have thought of making it a Ri Grande. Already have the decals to do that one.

Wow! great steal! They sure are getting rarer lately...
The MDC shays are a big pain the b*tt. They always have kinks in the gearing and even if they do manage to run, they are very noisy.
I would recommend the NWSL MDC shay regearing kit. Trust me, the $$$ is worth it! They run silky smooth after the transition :D
If I can't fix it, I can fix it so it can't be fixed.
