I've been keeping my eyes open for some brass strip that would match what Mantua used on the Mantua Metal Products tank cars. The band that wrapped around the tank at each end of the car. I'd recently seen some on K & S metals web site and decided to go for the expense, knowing the minimum order was $25. I ended up getting a couple of the brass strips (each 36" long!), some wire, some corrugated aluminum sheet (scale roof?) and a mini wire bender to get up to $25. We'll see how that wire bender works out and I'm sure there will be plenty of brass strip and wire for my kids to inherit.
I got the package today (ended up costing $15 for shipping). I was wondering how that brass strip and wire would come since it was listed as 36". Were they going to bend it or what? Turns out it was just a big box. The wires and strip were unbent and unblemished. Unfortunately, the corrugated aluminum sheet suffered a couple impressions. I'm contacting them now to see if I might get a replacement for that.

By the way, K & S has a larger minimum of $100. This is apparently a subsidiary called "Special Shapes" (separate web site as well) where the minimum is $25.
So . . . just an FYI for modelers.

If you find a match for the u-channel used for the little sills that the stirrup steps attached to on old metal Mantua and Thomas Industries tanks, let me know, I could really use a section of that stuff

My goodness, such an expense for a couple of brass bands. How about a copper strip from a D cell battery compartment, or at our local hobby shoppe one can purchase strips of brass in various lengths.
I've used aluminum foil raked with a comb for galvanized tin roofs with satisfactory result. Surely you must know Campbell makes corregated roof strips as well.
This sounds like Zelda and his mad tender in reverse.
