My set this week is a recently acquired Bachmann John Bull set from eBay for 13.00.

Pretty fine set there George. Could be fun to do an entire Victorian era layout; seems like just when technology had advanced enough to allow them to shape those big things of iron and machine things nicely.

Actually, it's in better condition than I thought it was. It has hook n horn couplers, but that will
change. I have 45 sets of link and pin couplers that will make it more period. And yes, I
have tried to corner the market on link n pin coupler sets.

For a short while after the 1864 election cycle, railroads experimented with coupling rail cars with "Lincoln in 64" campaign buttons and loops of old bunting from political rallies. Alas, when the trains got too long, the bunting tore and the "Lincoln Pin" system was replaced with the homonymous link and pin system. While largely forgotten, this important datum of history was amply documented by an author named Dr. Lance Boyle who insisted that he was really Napoléon Bonaparte.
