Hello Ken and All, I hope everyone's holiday was good. I have a loco question--I'm waiting on the arrival of an old Aristocraft (new One Model Toys) Frisco 2-8-2. Anyone have any experience with these? Are they decent runners? Adams.

Yes they are good running locos. Don't just put power to them without seeing if they have been taken care of. The last owner should have gotten them ready before the sale with lubing and test running. If the person selling then gave that I don't anything about trains standard line. You will have to do the work yourself. * Share some photos with us of this and you other trains. * Catfordken has one in like new condition. It is a beauty ! * Another nice Frisco is owned by vancer. He has posted it in a photo of his Aristo locos on a shelf . His whole collection is one of well kept very good condition locos. frank

| Thanks guys, I'll send pics. It should be here in a day or two. I do like to go through all locos with a cleaning and lube. What kind of tender electrical connection does it have? A separate wire...part of the drawbar?

| Well, the Frisco 2-8-2 arrived yesterday. After cleaning and oiling, it runs fine...but there's a problem...It won't seem to negotiate my Peco Electrofrog switches. On one, it shorts out, on the other, the wide wheels catch, and won't let it pass. The only crazy thought I had was that the boiler is the same length as a Mantua Mikado...I could try using the Mantua chassis. Option 2 is a shelf queen, which I don't need, and option 3---anyone want to buy an Aristocraft Mikado?? $40, free shipping? Adams

Ivrr325 no they aren't THAT rare. I usually see around 4 listed every month on Ebay.
If I can't fix it, I can fix it so it can't be fixed.

| Well, Here's my 'happy medium' solution...I just bought a Varney 4-6-0 (Casey Jones) from Ebay. It is supposed to be a good runner, but has no tender. It was in the 20-something range. I'll be using the tender from the Aristocraft to make a good complete loco, while preserving the Mikado for the time being. Also--couldn't help myself--picked up two boxed/new condition Mantuas (collectible editions, just before US production ended). One is the 0-8-0 with lights, smoke, etc. The other is the Light Mikado with lights, smoke, and Sagami can motor. The pair was $125, free shipping...a pretty honest deal, I think.
