No one starting us off again this week? Ok well then how about the old Plasticville Freight Station. A second hand building with second hand details a little paint and a brick paper tower I tossed together for the original layout I built for my son in the eighties.

| Simple and very nice. It shows the potential in some of the simplest kits.

Nice! I like the boarded-up tower window.

Thanks guys, glad you like it. You know looking at my photo I got to say what makes it is the crappy paint job. Just enough that it doesn't look like a plastic toy. Sometimes that all it takes.

You say "crappy paint job", I say "weathered"
I like that stonework. Is that just painted on?

Naw Jerry, weathering is what guys spend a fortune on powders and special paints and practice air brushing techniques for. Modeling magazines publish monthly articles on how-to and photo essays featuring the best of the best. They even have books and clinics on it. What I did was a 'wham bam thank you mam' couple of brush strokes and that was it. But hey, it works! The stone is printed off a texture site (below) on to thick card and pasted on. That works too.

Last week I mentioned changing Sam' car lot. I bought a new kit for parts and modified the base to enlarge parking space. I trimmed off the first 5/8 inch of the left side with the rounded sidewalk to make a square fit. Removed steps etc, smoothed then used a light coat of textured paint before the flat black. Will glue together, fill the seam to get black area all the same color, and paint the sidewalk all one color. I'm using only parts from Sam's kit to make this, other than the two lighted Life-Like poles...

Finally got a Wells Fargo Station for my town. Now I have a place for my stage coach passengers to disembark.

The people who do all the fancy weathering stuff you see in magazines speak of powders and airbrushes as if they're something I can afford... I find that comparable results can easily be accomplished using $1 craft-store acrylics, a 10-cent foam paintbrush, and some boredom.

Yeah Gary, like I said...weathering and if you got the right effect by slapping it with a few brush strokes I guess that makes you a weathering genius
Thanks for the texture site link!
