Wow, I guess I'll be the one to start this off. I'm in such a rush to show off my latest find. I got this off eBay and I must say, "The quality of wok is not bad at all". Who ever painted this 2-8-0 has got great skills. The only problem That I can find is if you hold it and let the light bounce off of it, you can very faintly see "Chattanooga" in the tender, they probably should have stripped the lettering off before painting.

Wow, they did do a nice job on that Conrail smoker! Very nice indeed. I like it.
My LOTW is my N&W J by BLI, which I ran at Railrest in Manassas, VA last weekend, with the REAL 1:1 J in the background. Probably the only time I will ever get a picture like this. I think my little J got more than it's fair share of attention too, as I think I was the only guy from 5 different clubs running a miniature J around.

That Chattanooga looks exactly like something Tyco could've made towards the end of the 70's. I like how bizarre it is. My LOTW is a Rivarossi 4-4-0 and it runs pretty good actually.

GG-1, that thing is cool
If it is any consolation, real railroads rarely stripped off the old paint when repainting - so it's more prototypical that way.

Great locomotives this week, but I am really intrigued by this "J" Jerry. I have to plead ignorance on what that means. Is it the type of train you're running there (?G scale?)? It looks like a cool train. I'd like to see more of it . . . maybe even a video. Thanks. Barry

I have some dandy picks this week. First, I "LOVE" that Conrail steamer! Next, I found a brass Geep three five dummy in DRGW colors for $5.00!!! Score. Also grabbed this Globe/Athearn F-7 for the same price. This thing is awesome! I put it on the track at home and it took off without hesitation. It runs beautifully considering its age. I cleaned it up, touched up the paint and put a Kadee in it...done! Next up is a chop shop TRRA slug dummy bought for a buck. Lastly was a basket case hot mess Alco RS unit with a Hobbytown chassis. Not sure what I will do with this one just yet.

Barry, the J was a train model that Norfolk and Western made, it was a letter series....here is a picture of the front of the engine, with the production plaque up top. I am running an HO scale version made by BLI ( Broadway Limited ), mine is #613, which has bearings in the side rods, and not bushings like the older J's had. Anyway, a great locomotive.
I do have a video of the J, posted on Facebook, I have't posted it to YouTube yet so I can post it here. If you have Facebook, go to Jerry Casper, and since it was posted just last week, it should be easy to find ( ie, don't have to scroll down a mile ). It was epitomy of the high class of the last of the major steam engines H&W did. It just came out of a full restoration to steam after sitting for more than 20 years at the Roanoke, VA Museum of Transportation in Virginia, USA, costing a cool million, and scavenging parts from the GS-4 the museum has as well, to get it back live. That deep, haunting mellow whistle is something to hear! Anyway, here's a few more pictures of it -

That is a very handsome old girl. I have one of them myself, but mine was made sometime in the 50's.

Flipping through an MR from Dec.70, I came across this article. Then one is posted this week. Very timely. The letter writer obviously felt strongly about the decals. No sense of humor whatsoever.

He's upset because there was never a Penn Central steam engine. I think he's accusing Walther's of misleading modelers, not getting that it is "tongue-in-cheek" on Walther's part.
I figure if he caught a glimpse of your Conrail steamer his head would explode.

A Pennsylvania Railroad 2-10-4 that was a J1A class. This is a HO Train Company early brass model. Still a good running model train.

That trolley looks pretty good Thomas. I look at the paint closely and I don't see anything special; maybe even a little red splashed to the roof. But altogether, it stirs the imagination.
