Starting off with an Irv (Athearn), I picked this up on Friday for $5, non-running. Can't wait to see if fixable. I think this is my second Athearn Steam engine. I have the pilot and trailing axle, not pictured.

This was given in "payment"? for working on a Bachmann Climax with bad teeth. As I haven't actually fixed anything on it, I feel a bit guilty accepting it. If it bothers me too much, I'll pay the $40 as an alternative. Then I can sleep at night. Atlas MP-15 in CNW Lifesaver colours. Evan

I definitely like that unit. My LOTW is a Mantua/Tyco Sharknose in a horrible custom livery that I got at a train show with a Penn Central Tyco caboose for $12. The thing works okay, I guess.

One of these days I'll find one of those. I finally got a 0-4-2T "Lil' Monster" to replace the two that fell apart over 55 years ago it seems...then found an 0-6-0. I have a tender and one tender truck for the Pacific. Some day.....

Just picked up this Bachmann E60CF electric for $10. It runs but is missing the dummy pantograph. I plan on ordering a working pantograph from Bachmann Parts.

What an odd unit, I must say.

The Santa Fe electric is an E60CF. This road name is rather rare as mfg by Bachmann. Bachmann made two versions of the E60CF.... the other is a Chessie version.
Try to find a early junker Bachmann E60CP as the detail should be the same or similar.....

I don't think Santa Fe or Chessie ever had these things.

Yup, only Black Mesa and Lake Powell had the prototype.
http://www.trainweb.org/southwestshorts/bmlp.html
I've had the Chessie version in my collection for a while, but the ATSF version alluded me until now. I just like the way it looks, even though it is a total fantasy theme. And I'm not complaining for $10.
The Burlington Northern was considering electrification during the oil crisis of the 1970's. Here is an article about it:
http://www.railheadvideo.com/rvp/bne60.htm
American GK had a model of BN version, but the American GK model is a next generation E60CF that was never produced in real life. If you look closely at the rooflines, you can spot the difference between the Bachmann and American GK versions.
