Scoring another huge batch of out-of-production diecast, this lot is SURE to be a favorite with Microbuss... I bet some wife got rid of her husband's collection! Most of it is Johnny Lightning, a recently-deceased diecast maker that tanked 2 years ago. These are from maybe the early 2000's, the Pez versions I didnt' have yet, actually I didn't buy hardly any VW 'casts due to low funds at that point in my life. Finding these now, well, I get a 2nd chance. Anyway, here they are, a thrift store score on hump day. I did get one lone Matchbox Premium Coke bus, only non-JL diecast.
Jerry

Since I got two of this last one, it will join the rest of the stuffs I have for Ben heading out to Nebraska this week.

Buss, all of your pairs are alike but different! It's fascinating to see how a toy or model gets changed over the years.

Hot Wheels/Mattel actually owned the Corgi lineup? So basically what you're saying is that Corgi was Hot Wheels for European markets?

There was another take-over, I posted it recently, during the '90's some toymaker bought Tyco, then Mattel bought THEM, so Mattel actually owned Tyco for a few years, too. There is/was a LOT of re-branding of diecast cars due to small companies going out of business, then another one will buy their molds and release some under their own name. Tomica actually owns the rights to the following companies : Racing Champions, RC2, Ertl, Johnny LIghtning, among others. It's a diecast-eat-diecast-maker world out there, lots of incestuous manufacturing going on. It's hard to keep up with all the ownership changes, etc. .

Huh. I actually like Tomica vehicles, they're quite well made and realistic for their size. At least, as far as I can tell.

My wife knows I love cheap farm and NASCAR diecast, and picks it up for me when funds allow. This $30 beast, a JD S680 combine in S scale, was marked down to $5 at a local store...

One of the problems with the Tomica / Tomy brand ( and management ) is that most of their cars were NOT USA based. Many of the diecast that Tomica actually makes itself are names and makes of cars not sold in the US market. When they took over Johnny Lightning, they were really confused as to what to sell, I guess, as JL only lasted a few years under their management, then they just quit making them. Some came out under the Ertl brand, but the JL name is basically gone now. Most of the Tomica cars and trucks I see I would not want, as they are so orient-biased as to have no place in my heart ( or collection ). They are of good quality, and highly praised in the Japan market, but other than a few Euro-centric models like Mercedes and a few others, there's nothing USA-based to give anyone here much interest. Not that I've seen. I'm into antique, classic, and muscle era cars, I have no interest in what Tomica makes nowadays. Or very few models, anyway.

That is pretty true, but honestly, I quite like them. I guess it just breaks the molds of most diecast car manufacturers I've seen in terms of what countries the cars are from.
