First generation Rivarossi C-Liners sells for $280. These are circa 52-53. I was not aware of the three rail version.

Me neither until now, of course.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

Tried wikiapedia and found on the subject Rivorassi a site (in Italian) chronicaling the History of the company started in 1945

SINCE MY Italian is terrible (know High School French and Spanish) and since my computer malware has been 'iffy" did not pursue it much

Some of it has been translated into English

Also the "contacts" in the pic seem to suggest two rail Flyer as well

They are HO from 1952-53 era. They have the same shell and trucks as later models of Rivarossi C-Liners from the mid-50's.

Another example listed in the HO section of eBay.

have we forgotten that MARKLIN uses a 3 rail in HO?
So this might be made for the EU market since its the most popular there

They definitely were made for the European market, not U.S.

I'm probably lucky this auction slipped through my search terms.

Wow... three A.C. double-motored 3-rail units. I only saw my first A.C. version of their early ball bearing motor in a parts auction a few weeks ago. They were used in their domestic 3 rail locos, and these were definitely made for the European market to be compatible with Marklin. I had NO idea they ever double-motored them, though. I'm surprised they even bothered with traction tires. With two motors per unit, that huge lead weight with reversing unit, and 4 tires per engine these must have been real beasts!

The truck castings look good, but it's always hard to tell without closeups. Almost all of them have experienced at least a little expansion, and the brass cover plate they're bolted to causes them to bow downward. The swelling usually pinches the axles and idler gears, so a little filing is often necessary to free them up. Changes in the mesh or just gear wear leaves many of them noisy. The field on the rear motor of the one photographed looks pretty well rusted, too, and it's impossible to know if the bearing cups are worn. Whoever bought them has quite a project on his hands if he wants to get them running.
