My Hobbytown chassis rubber drive shafts finally gave out. What's a good replacement? I was thinking about fuel lines from a RC vehicle.

Justin, My old friend used RC fuel line a lot on his brass rebuilds. I used it a few times with good results. He provided the line, so I am not sure of the size. Regards, John

I'll bring it with me tomorrow to the hobby shop.

I have the E7 and F3 A&B units from Hobbytown. I replaced the rubber drive shafts with the u-joint kits from Hobbytown. They work better and last longer. You have to know what the diameter of the motor shaft and gearbox shaft is to get the right ones. They came in 3/32 and 2mm sizes. I found mine on evilbay at a very reasonable price. The kit comes with enough parts for both the upper and lower drive shafts.

I've learned the shaft size is 2.4 mm. I did find the fuel lines on eBay. Not sure if it's inside or outside diameter. It's temporary. I'll eventually get some NWSL universals.

Bear locomotive still sells these universal kits. The 3/32" is $5.50 and the 2mm is $5.70. Check out the website. http://home.comcast.net/~bearbon/site/?/photos/&PHPSESSID=3b08c837fc0ae753bdb3b382e95f9008 These are WAYYY better than the NWSL ones, but they are a bit bigger. The ears on the balls need to be perpendicular to each other as the picture shows which is exactly opposite the NWSL ones. Regards, Vic B.

You'll find that these drive kits are way better than tubing. They don't give and the slide part makes for nice power transfer. Be careful when you cut the bar to length tho. It is easy to cut it too short and it will slip out on tight turns(that is from experience ).
