For this week, my contribution to the LOTW is a Bachmann Santa Fe livery U-Boat looking diesel that kinda works.

Toasty, really like it. Looks like it halved a gasoline tanker at some point.

Yeah, it does work, as I said, okay. It just needs some lube now that I've got it mostly cleaned up.

My parents wouldn't let any of that stuff in the house till I clean them good enough, no matter how much worse they may look after cleaning them.

Re-built Lionel Rectifier. Made in 1960 only as best I can tell. It is riding on an Athearn chassis. This one took me about a week to fix.

This engine was in the huge 4-bin lot I bought last week. I believe this to be my lone AC Gilbert HO gauge steam engine. Haven't tried it yet. Supposed to have a working smoke unit, too. circa 1955 . It is missing one axle on the trailing truck.

But honestly, that's not all that big of a deal, I'm sure there's parts out there. Nice find.

My LOTW is a Roco made and boxed spirit of 76. The loco is marked TYCO made in Austria on the underside and comes with the plastic MU2 motor and is brand new /never used. Talking to the seller at the swapmeet, this item and others I have been showing came from a hobby warehouse distributor in South Australia and have been sitting there for years. Brother and I had one of these when we were kids and these are good runners,he kept it so I am happy with this purchase.

That '76 is a beauty. Not seen one quite like that ever. That Peco track work has a nice fluid look to it. I'd really like to see the rest of that track plan; I have never seen an all Peco track plan before.
It is great to see work from Down Under, this has a fresh, new look. Please keep it coming!

Thanks Chops for the interest and kind words . I will post details of layout in Layouts forum. As for the S of 76 , I believe tyco outsourced manufacture for short periods in the 70s to other manufacturers like Roco for various reasons. Roco made its own version of the mu2 motor and it seems to run ok. I remember buying one of these in the mid 70s as a kid after owning some power tourqe tycos that ran hit and miss and thinking this tyco was awesome because it actually ran. Tony

Spent a happy childhood growing up not far from Hamilton, in Ancaster, Ontario. Those CN GP 20's brought back happy memories of a Canadian childhood- then later I discovered Tyco, it's been all down hill ever since! Downhill, because that is the only way Tyco will function!!!

A repost of a repost, but those Geep 20's in the Wet Noodle paint scheme just brings out the Canadian in me. This is a 17 car Jello train, also featured under Conrail colors in BOTW and it works great, but the weight and drag of the thing really tests those motors and I've gone through quite a few traction tires.
What I'd really love to do is put that Lionel Rectifier to the acid test and see if she can haul the Jellomania Express.

The rectifier is basically an Athearn GP-7. I imagine it would pull 17 fairly well rolling cars on flat track. I did no major modifications to it other than added directional lighting.

Unnnnnnh... that's the sound of getting the wind knocked out of me. That H2 is a dandy. Would love to see it tour the winter-autumn layout I'm working on. See layouts. Would look so nice winding through the covered bridge.

Being in Texas there is not much I can do or offer from New Jersey. Model Power sold a lot of these in 4-6-0, 0-8-0, and 2-8-0 types. They are still being sold new now but at a much higher price. You should be able to find them at train shows as so very many were made. These are tender drive locomotives of a much more reliable type than Tyco made. Maybe you can find them at auction and get a lucky lower bid accepted. Mine all run good. Well good luck .

Wait a sec....is this deal tender drive? Yes, I did have one some years ago, lettered it up for N de M. Had to weigh down the pilot, which had propensity to flip off the rails. I wired up a string of permanently attached coaches to add power to the motor, as the contacts weren't so hot on the locomotive alone, then it worked pretty good. I recall the tender trucks were fixed, did not swivel.
Ran the heck out of it, ended up posing it as a static model on a trolley layout on an industrial siding.
An enjoyable piece, but did require some tinkering. Yeah, I remember her now, we had a good fling in the day.

You know why they made an 0-8-0, right? Because the average one D ten T couldn't keep the pilot truck on the rails!

Wow, an explosion of 0-8-0's I'd never even dreamed about. I really like the Clementine and the Goat Mobile, up there. Can't help how cool is would be to see that Goat Meister pulling a string of those Goat Unloading Cars featured under COTW flinging out mountain goats one after the other.
Thinking I've been drinking too much coffee. Back to work.

There are so many version of the TYCO. Clementine, Chattanooga, Royal Blue (or whatever), 0-8-0, 2-8-0, some with all sorts of add on stuff like handrails that go low on the smokebox, some stop short, some none at all, some with valve gear, some without, some with metal tender frame, some plastic. Nice Mehano with no tender dive unit, tho. Dave

Dave, The boilers are the same or a very close copy. Mehano could have built some of the Tycos or the injection molding dies were sold to Mehano. ????? At some point Mehano built a Tyco 0-8-0 by droping their front and rear wheels off of their 2-8-2 and made a weird 0-8-0. I would prefer a Mehano drive over Tyco's tender drive. Regards, John

Here is my offering for this week, a 2 truck Rivarossi Heisler. I purchased it as 'Not Running, Needs Rebuilding". Well it turns out it was just a short in one of the light wires. Fixed that and did a thorough cleaning and re-greasing. Replaced the couplers with Kadee #21s and all is well. Just need a headlight and a rear running board and some detail junk.
