Picked this one up on Wed. at the Railhead.
Hobbytown RS-3.
I had to do a little tweak on the drive truck, as the base plate was slightly bowed.
This made the gears slip apart enough to spin free.
I put a bit of shim stock in, and good to go.
Still need to clean up a little more flash on the railings, etc.
I'd like to find a front power truck kit for it.
Note the teeny wheels!

There's just something about them, isn't there?
Is it the heft of the metal shell? Finely machined gears?
This one appears to have little road time, probably due to the gear issue.
Maybe no hours since it was new! Sure runs sweetly.

Nice old RS-3 unit! Love those all-metal engines, they just have a satisfying heft to them that's hard to beat.

My LOTW is a traction model, found at the annapolis, MD Armory show on Saturday. What this IS, I think, is the model made before Mantua purchased the company and rights to produce Trolleys, and changed them. This one has dual working trolley polls. I think. WIll have to take it apart to find out. But the shell is a dead ringer for a Tyco trolley shell, and screwed together just like it. So I'm pretty sure this was the model made before Mantua bought it and changed it. Paid about 7.50 for it.

So many good LOTW's this week.Mine is a Mantua Tyco shark from 1959 - 1961. I know that since it has Pennsylvania red on the base (it's been horribly custom painted) and it was only produced in that livery at that time. On top of that, on the roof, it has slots for the horn. I got it at a recent train show with a caboose for $15.It runs, yes, but very slowly and kinda choppily. I opened it up and the wheels and motor itself are filthy as heck.

My LOTW is this Power Torque motored Switcher just in from an eBay win, complete with dust and cobwebs. This lil' switcher will likely donate her wheels & axles to my PT study.

Hey Jerry. That trolley looks identical to the one I bought and posted a few months back. The opinion of others seemed to be that it was a Japanese knock-off of the Tyco trolley of the '50's. I don't actually have a Tyco trolley to compare so can't say for sure. I believe it was the one sold by a company going by the name "The HO Train Co."

Here's the site I posted before, but here's the thing - yes, they were made in Japan, BUT it wasn't a knock-off of Mantua/Tyco, because they hadn't started producing them yet - Mantua bought the company and used this body for their base Trolley unit.

https://traintalkbloggers.wordpress.com/tag/mantua-trolley/

As you can see, it's the exact one I have too, made by the HO Trolley Co. as you said -but it is the company Mantua bought. So they weren't competing, Mantua bought them up and used their mold to create theirs. At least that's what I read from this website. Truth? Don't know, I haven't researched it, and this guy has, so I'll give it the benefit of any doubt Either way, we have some early/rare trolleys to admire. I took mine to work today, and took it apart. The poles aren't wired to use (yet). The motor is totally dead, I mean DEAD - I put power right to the brushes and nothing. Not even a twitch. Cleaned them up, and the commutator pads, still nothing. The solder joints on the armature wiring are highly corroded, so may be bad or open now. Will try to diagnose it and see if I can find the problem. But for now I have a shelf queen.

If you get your trolley going I'll be interested to hear how it runs. Mine bounces comically along the rails, granted I haven't done much beyond polishing the wheels.

Newest power for the LC&P. This was a Globe Models dummy that I came across as an undecorated unit in plain silver. A few decal stripes and viola, a LC&P F-7a

Very nice custom work, I must admit. Unlike my LOTW's paint job.

Evan. check the half-bearing by the gears, there is a lip on the casting that would raise the bearing. It's there to keep the bearing in place, it seems too close to the gears. I have a four-wheel power truck, on a small frame, and driveshafts. I am assembling PA1 A and B units, need six wheel parts, and more of those half-bearings. PM me, we can collaborate on these locos.
