This week's COTW from me is a Con Cor Illinois Central coach in H0.

This week, a before and after. John English 60' coach. It had a fairly nasty paint job, so into the stripper with it. Afterwards, a polishing with Autosol applied with pieces of carpet, and it's blinding. I must try it on some brass. Evan

My car of the week could be considered as one car or five. It's a set of coal jimmies connected with drawbars, only having couplers on the two on the end:

In the May, 1967 issue of Model Railroader, E. L. Moore had an article called "Six Ton Jimmy." Some time ago, there were little 4-wheel carts called Jimmies in which coal was transported by rail. They were not much more than mining carts, but they traveled on common carrier rails. E. L. Moore described how he modeled them using sections of a wooden yardstick for a chassis and freight car trucks to mount the wheels.
While they're a bit old fashioned for my layout, I wanted to build some just for the fun of it. Because it was just an impulse build and because E. L. Moore projects were frugal by nature, I figured to do it on the cheap. I had some 1/8" thick wood and cut out the floors I needed. Framing was cut from scraps of balsa and planking was scribed file folder cardboard. The folders were too dog-eared and used up for their original purpose. The ghost of Mr. Moore would like it that way. Each Jimmy is weighted with four taconite pellets with sand glued in around them and coal glued on the top. Here's a view as you would normally see it:

Here's how the underside is built:
The wheels mount in old archbar trucks from the parts box. They're modified to look less like normal freight car trucks. This is an end car with a coupler on one end and the drawbar on the other.
Here's how they all couple together as seen from below:

My car of the week is a neat old wood boxcar that came in a group of stuff I got off of eBay. It has Central Valley trucks, but no other markings. May try to restore it if possible.

The Fox type trucks have individual springs for each wheel. Haven't seen those before.

Those are some fine trucks George. The Michigan Southern line has a pretty good bunch of history; ultimately became part of New York Central, I believe.

Hmmm. This looks like this will be one of those "keep as is" cars. Judging by the way the couplers are made, this may have been an early (late 50's or early 60's) Roundhouse kit. Thanks for the input on this.

Great looking cars as always. This vintage mantua car I picked up at Edison NJ yesterday. I used garbage can at NJ Transit station near Edison NJ with new rail equipment nearby.

I once rode in a car that looked about like that in the Nevada State Railway Museum, except that the road name was Virginia and Truckee. That's a neat old time car.

As far as I can tell, they didn't. That would be pretty cool to find one of these things, though.

Pretty sure it's a Central Valley kit all the way through. I've got one in PRR that isn't built yet. Those couplers with the vertical trip pins are just old kadees - no indication of the car's manufacture other than that it was assembled in the 60's (I think).

No, I have the front rail wheels just didn't put them on for this picture. Behind the rubber tires is a plastic wheel flange to keep the car on the track. It isn't square to the axle and when the car travels down the track it wobbles and jumps up and down.
