Hauled this one off the thrift store pegs last week, what a find, only $5, a Walthers Train Line engine, retails over $70 new. Wheels were totally dirty, and contacts to wheels weren't even touching, but a bit of time with the Dremel wire wheel brush and some pliers, and it's running like a champ again! Dual flywheels, very nice near mint condition, it runs smoothly and silently now ( just silent before ). I've been hoping to one day see some trains at the thrift store, this one and the JOTW post were both picked up together. Not sure I'll get that lucky again anytime soon, especially such a nice unit as the Walthers for $5, but will take my good luck where I can!

Nice stuff this week, guys.My LOTW is a Rivarossi H0 scale 0-4-0 in Union Pacific livery that I got with the box for $20 at the latest train show. Looking inside the box, there was a list of hobby shops that sold AHM products and it had the date "3/66" in it.

Got this at a train show in Wilmington, MA today...
Walthers Trainline BNSF GP9M! It's even got a decoder already installed in it, along with LED headlights in the front! Runs pretty well, and may very well become one of my main locomotives for layout use.

I give. JOTW is Junk Of The Week? Doesn't come near to qualifying as Junk. Maybe it means something else? Jubilation? Jewel? Jerry?

Since I had two Mantua Burlington Northern GP-20s (one a newer Model Power version, the other a 90s version), I thought I'd take my 90s version and kitbash it a bit. Got a new shell for it!
It sure looks great! I may need to oil it a bit, as I haven't run it for some time, but it's a neat piece to have! Now I just need the handrails...

Oh, THIS BNSF engine is not junk! The Life Like Santa Fe engine I posted in JOTW ( yes, it meant Junk originally ) was missing truck parts, it MUST be bad, even Microbuss has turned it down! Many of my junkers are't really that bad, but I think I converted the meaning to JunkBOX of the week, not Junk, a month ago. So it might be somthing in the junk box, but is not necessarily junk.

As long as pictures are being posted, everyone is happy....
Going back through my photobucket archives tonight I found a set that hasn't been on the rails in several years. This is a pair of Athearn F7's in CN paint.

Hi guys. Been going to a local train show/swapmeet twice a year for a while and its hard finding tycos in good condition. BUT this time i hit the jackpot (tycos everywhere). This Queensland Rail tyco was in a junkbox for $2.00 and was told it was junk and didn't work. What a bargain and it does work. Have never seen one in person before and hard to find even for us aussies.A real striking looking loco. I had so much to choose from i even turned down a boxed NSW tyco (kicking myself now). Tony

I never realized these were factory paint jobs! I have seen them on the forum but assumed they were customs. Now I must find one!quote:Hi guys. Great conversion! This is really an attractive color scheme and I wonder just how much convincing it would take to find a prototype shortline RR out there with and old chop-nosed geep to paint one of their units in this scheme. It could actually become a draw for a tourist line!quote:Since I had two Mantua Burlington Northern GP-20s (one a newer Model Power version, the other a 90s version), I thought I'd take my 90s version and kitbash it a bit. My LOTW is a beat to heck CB&Q Tyco F-7 that I nabbed at a swap meet in a scrap bin for a buck! It runs! Need to fix a few small cracks around the headlight and track down some new decals for the nose and lettering. Otherwise....not a bad find for a dollar.

Microbusss ,youre right. But another swapmeet this weekend and NSW loco seller might be there. I also picked up a brown box Santa Fe 2 8 0 in what looks like brand new never used condition. Seller said it didn't work ,but it does. Tony

Blame DaCheez for inspiring this whacko consist. One of my first posts to the TF. Nothing beats the CN stripes for drama. Growing up near Toronto, this paint scheme rolled my socks down.

I'll join metalsmith with another CB&Q Burlington locomotive. Another addition to my personal slippery slope of Con-Cor E7s. Since it is going directly to the moving box I have yet to install the horns and side window glass.

Jerry, does the Con-Cor E-7 have the same chassis as the Rivarossi? The reason I ask is that I have 4 RR, E-8's and I want to find an E-7 shell to paint up in C&EI colors.

Randy - my lone pair of RR E8s are buried in a box in the garage right now, so I cannot give you a definitive answer. In my mind, I want to say 'yes', but not sure if you might have to do a little filing here and there. However - just an opinion - I don't think it would be a stretch to fit a Con-Cor shell on a RR chassis.

The Rivarossi E8 has a plastic chassis, vertical motor, and 2 driven axles on the rear truck. The Con-Cor (Roco) has a diecast frame, huge can with flywheel, and all wheel drive.

Thanks Nelson. I have no experience with either Roco or Rivarossi other than I have a RR E-8 unit shell on a Proto 2000 drive. Jerry has offered to rescue me with an E-7 shell if he can locate the box it is packed in. Some time ago, Microscale had a clearance sale on a bunch of decals and I bought 5 sets of the C&EI e unit sheets. Hey, they were only a couple bucks each.
