* I have a small collection of these. They are older ones from the 1950's and 1960's. Some are not in the best of shape. Some I do run . Others are on the someday I'll do something about them list.
* To start it off the littlest of them that I have. American train and track locomotive,
" The little Miner".

* I got this one 11-09-2014 at the "Allentown First Frost train show".

Well you have seen the real little ones I still have. I had other little ones but I traded them to another member who appreciates them giving them a new home. At a friends house a few days before last weekends Clark NJ train show, I was offered this for a very small cost and couldn't pass it up. It fits my collection being made from the late 1950's to the early 1960s. When you read the info on the labels it says it is a kit. Then you read more and find it be factory assembled and track tested. Then you see that this Akane model was made expressly for International Model Products known as IMP. Most IMP models made were listed as made by Takara. This Akane model was still made after IMP stopped importing brass trains for I have a Gem catalog for 1966-67 and the model is shown in this catalog. My early Takara catalog of about 1958 shows it offered as a Inter-Akane model.
* So my model is Akane made model, imported and sold by IMP in the USA as a International-Akane model, listed in a Takara catalog. Later made by Akane and sold by Gem. Very confusing.
* My 1957 model is a USRA 2-6-6-2 I will have to repair, but don't mind because I only paid 85 bucks for it. These old articulates weren't completely powered. Only the rear set of axels were powered. The front set being free wheeling.

Clearly seen is the label " Made Expressly for International Models".

Though the original markings say this model is sold as a kit, the additional stickers say it to be "Kustom Built" and "Track Tested" !

* Steven Good luck with your painting. Not being that ambitious, or should I say not able to do paint in multiple colored layers in various overlaying patterns. For me it is hard to add decal sets to one color paint. Well again best wishes to you.

Brass collection? I've got stuff! In no particular order:

Balboa ATSF 4-4-2

Painted this one to match photos of this class as closely as possible. I missed a couple decals, and have been meaning to put them on. I also installed a coreless motor, and this thing runs unbelievable smooth and quiet!

Akane MA&PA 2-8-0

Replaced the dead motor magnet with neodymium, and this thing is one strong runner! I found out later that the decal set I used wasn't entirely accurate. Oh well.

Akane SP 4-8-8-2

Painted this based on photos of the prototypes. I also modified it to run on a 22" radius, added a coreless motor, and put in NWSL universals. I still have a few final touches left, but it turned out very nice!

Ken Kidder Porter 2-6-0

Not prototypical for any US railroads, so I painted it for my own "Central Illinois Railroad". Upgraded it with an NWSL motor, flywheel, and gears. The brass domes are polished and lacquered to maintain their shine.

Soho Type F streetcar

The original motor was terrible, so I installed a coreless. The drive truck only needed a little tuning to run very smooth. I've since painted it dark green with a cream color roof.

Alco ALCO C-630

Upgraded with NWSL worms and axle gears, as well as a couple tower gears, flywheels, and universals. Still not quiet, but it's a great runner! Painted it for Penn Central because it was easy.

Westside PRR 4-4-0

My first brass piece, and still one of my best! Samhongsa's craftsmanship is excellent, with great detail and build quality. The only problem was a very weak coreless motor, but that was an easy fix.

Tenshodo GP20

Upgraded this with Smokey Valley handrails, a coreless motor with flywheel, directional constant lighting, and an Athearn universal underneath. Painted it for Burlington Northern. It just needs a little work on the electrical pickup to be a really great runner.

I also have an Alco Models C-420, but I have some work to do on it. Got it as a cheap basket case with the trucks falling apart, so I installed some P2K trucks and a Bachmann motor with flywheels.

Darth Santa Fe, doing weird and challenging projects for the fun of it!

I've got one brass locomotive in my possession. It's a PFM/United shay:

It belonged to my late cousin and came to me as a box of parts that were easily assembled. I put it together and gave it a simple (as in even I couldn't mess it up) paint job and a number.

It was built to pick up power on 4 wheels, so I added contacts to the other 4 to make it 8-wheel pickup. Even so, it needs really clean track to run properly, so I only run it occasionally when I've just cleaned the track pretty well.

It was missing the sand hatch covers from the back of the engine, so I wrote to PFM to see if the part was available. They're little brass turnings that look like pan lids with a knob-type handle, so they're easy to ship. PFM just stuck a couple in an envelope and sent them to me without even charging for them. I'd say that's mighty nice of them.

This is a brass GP-35 with some serious issues but the price was right!. Look closely, someone glued a plastic Athearn nose to this poor thing and the fact that the frame is slightly bent lead me to believe that at some point the engine took a trip to the floor! I figured the $5 bucks I paid for it made the brass trucks alone worth the price.

That Aristocraft logger looks like it could be an easy scratchbuild with a couple Mantua 0-6-0 chassis! Could make an interesting project someday.

Ken should recognize my only brass lokey, an NWSL 18 ton Class A Shay. Offered in 1974, their initial release had a problem that had them delayed. While nowhere I've looked mentions what exactly the problem was, I've found that the rear truck is not powered on mine--it was built to free wheel. The ads that I have specify all wheel drive, so I'm wondering if I have one that slipped thru Quality Control. Not exactly a puller, but it is---dare I say--cute?

Very interesting ... The actual shay drive is used to transfer power to the trucks. Did you contact NWSL if they make replacement to parts for it.

PFM United Southern Cresent 4-6-2

well on with the next one.
* You have seen my first Southern Rail Road pacific painted for The Erie. Well I got another at a past train show. It came in a cigar box and was apart for cleaning, I guess.

* Now after I found the missing screws and springs I put it back together. Here is my second SRR Pacific.

these brass models were packed in green foam, which as can be seen, deteriorate and stick and discolour the brass, anyone actually found something that does a good job of removing it,without stripping it down, anyone tried to do it with acetone

When I've had to clean foam off a loco, I found just using a fingernail works well.
For those hard-to-reach areas, a stiff tooth brush.
Neither one seems to bother the paint much, unless it's already flaky.
Your results may vary.
