As mentioned, I largely focus on British OO, but am not opposed to blending in other memories of other trains from other countries. At the end of the day, everything is memory, no?
Briefly, in 1964 I took a train from Moscow to Helsinki. This is of that memory.

Great video, Chops! That Russian electric loco is really something.

Based on what you've said about these locos, it sounds like it was either one of these...
TE3:
Or a VL8:
Or possibly even a VL10:
And the coaches were probably a combination of these:

I knows Russia uses a wide gauge of track Even the Germans in WW2 were regauging the tracks to Standard I'm thinking "Wouldn't it of been easier to lay down a 3rd Rail?"

Well, there's a reason the Germans lost WW2.

Germany itself didn't have the natural resources to sustain its war effort, and Hitler overextended the German war machine trying to gain control of more resources, because he wasn't the brilliant military strategist he thought he was.

Economy Today! USSR. So, if Soviets did trailers for movies, what would it look like? A mild parody follows. The following is for entertainment purposes only, any other references are simply a reflection of memories from that time and place.

I was hoping to pair it with Nena's 99Luftballoons, German version, but it got blocked on copyright.

I will reckon 2,000,000 images reside on the Tyco Forum.
I got this really cool piece from a guy in the UK who is selling off a friend's lifetime collection.
It is a model of an actual Soviet train, and the lettering has the Hammer & Sickle and is lettered CCCP, which is the Russian translation for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which is uber cool.
I cannot read the Cyrillic on the box, but I am told this model was actually made in the Soviet Union, which surprises the heck out of me as any of the Soviet era toys and dolls I have every seen are pretty simple and made of celluoid (dolls), carved wood, or sturdy sheet metal steel. I've seen two plastic aircraft kits, and they are made of extremely thin and brittle plastic. This item comes with a rather extensive detail pack, which is not something I would have guessed for a Soviet piece. And the plastic shell is well formed.
Another oddity is that the few Soviet train sets that were produced (no one could afford them) came as complete sets with a couple of buildings, accessories, and track. This was because unless you were to scratchbuild something, there were no additional parts that could be obtained.
It is tender drive, and I will have a chance to fire it up this weekend and see how she rolls.

Transliterating the Cyrillic on the box to the Roman alphabet: ELEKTRIFICIROVANNOI ZHELEZNOI DOROGI (Electrified Railway)
On the box in the outline of a locomotive: MINI RETRO
The cover of the manual:
INSTRUCTSIYA (Instructions)
PARAVOZ (Locomotive)
The small print is Ministry Instrumentation Funds Automation and Systems Management
The bottom line is hard to even see, and I somehow got this from Google Translate: Kursk losing milfs Swell translation, huh?

We are making progress! Something must be done to stop the loss of Kursk milfs. This cannot be!

Now that is like an artifact. Nice set, Chops - looking forward to hearing how well it runs.

New Trains to the Baltic! CCCP.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AW6vhQD9DM
Apologies for the bad focus. Was trying to get this expensive camcorder to do more than it is able; the venerable smart phone with its tiny lens works so much better.
The locomotive and matching coaches is produced under Soviet auspices, the brand name translating to "Mini." The paper work enclosed, and the customs documents, are in Cyrillic.
It is also determined that this locomotive, built about 1888, and survived well into the Soviet era, was used extensively between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea, so the title might have been better as "New Trains to the Black and Caspian Seas," rather than Baltic, but I was fatigued and did not see the error until just now.
In any event, it is a whimsical "trailer" advertising Soviet trains from one place to another; the Soviet economy did not promote tourism.

This vintage Playcraft wagon lends itself nicely to Chops's Soviet Empire. The red star, generally emblematic of that railway, does not show up well against the brown background. May need to look about for some yellow hammer and scythe designs.

That HO Russian steamer is something else - runs pretty good, albeit it does seem noisy. How do you rate it compared to your other European steam locomotives.

I'd expected it be not much better than junk, so it was a shock that it runs as well as it did. There is some speculation it might be made by the East German PIKO, but nobody really knows. It runs better than a number of American and British pieces, so a little gear whine doesn't bother me!

Looking at the video, I'm shocked at how smooth it is, too. Considering it looks like it was literally falling apart in the box (seems like they made it so you have to install all the parts via glue), it seems really quite nice. A shame they're so absurdly pricy.

USSR Railski Pass
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TWVTy4ETgI
I shot another vid, trying to get the resolution better. I think perhaps that the lighting is too dim causing the poor quality. Will try some 150 Watt bulbs next time.
Wasn't too crazy priced, the guy was trying to move it along and sold it for 100 BPS, which is what he paid for it. You're right apart the parts, and I have a vexing dribble of super glue that will need figuring out how to fix.

Wow! Yeah, I don't mind the natural "sound effects" of old DC model trains either.
