My contribution to this week's LOTW is a DCC Sound fitted H0 scale Illinois Central E-unit that I got with 8 coaches for $60 and both the A and B unit have motors and sound. At first when I saw it, I thought it was just gonna be a cheap locomotive but I felt at that price it's worth a shot, and when I put it on the test track and turned on the power, the horn came on, the front light flashed much like Daylight, the sound of the engine whirred (and this is all DCC Sound stuff, mind you) and then I went "Wow! I totally got to buy this thing, especially at the price" and I did.The only thing I'm wondering is; who made it?

I know! That's why I knew I had to have it at that price when I found out it had sound. And the guy selling it said he never ran it in his possession so yeah.

That would have been a steal on the A unit alone, in DC! But for a the A&B together - with DCC and sound - PLUS THE COACHES????

My LOTW looks something like a trailer park reject on rails. I bought this at a show, but I honestly do NOT remember it, nor do I know where it is at the moment. Gonna have to try to find this one. Amazing how much stuff I have that I have to look at all my pictures to remember I have something like this. Maybe I have too many trains? Nah! I believe it's a CS_ ES4990001 , by Piko ( at least , thats' the name I saved it as ).

Ah, I found it online, this is what it SHOULD look like ( with all the roof parts intact ) -

Well that looks pretty fun Steven. Be interesting to see how a G gauge rotary snow plow would do.

Um, a B-Unit? Any chance to get a close-up of those handrailings and bottom?
I am voting on a Broadway Limited locomotive because those curves are a bit too precise and clean to be a LL Proto. And you said you got matching cars... you got a hot deal, I'd say!
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

I looked closer and it seems to have brass handrails. On top of that, my club has a Broadway Limited switcher and it has the same decoder as the A and B unit you see as my LOTW for this week. But yeah, here's a picture of the handrails on the B unit, which is identical to the A unit.
And this is the BLI BN switcher I was talking about and I did a bit of research and found a similar model of #4012, but it was #4027 instead and it has the same decoder (paragon2) as my model and the #4027 model. And I do believe this decoder was exclusive to BLI products, I think.
Therefore, I am now starting to believe that my A and B unit may in fact be BLI products.

I got this late last week, but I was too busy with other things, but today I finally got to use it...
An IHC 2-8-0 Santa Fe consolidation steam locomotive!
If it looks familiar to you, it's because I think IHC used the same tooling for TYCO's old Consolidation/0-8-0 locomotives, only this one runs much better! I have since swapped out the horn-hooks for knuckle couplers after these photos were taken. Maybe I'll even upgrade it to DCC or something.

IHC Mountain. New. Someone at some point poked a hole in the cellophane cover and robbed the small add-on parts kit. I found the source, got all the parts, installed them, trimmed the Styrofoam box to clear, so it's all in one place. "Sale" price on the box was $129.95. Dave

Update: I opened up the shell of the two Illinois units and found that they were, in fact, made by Broadway Limited and has a copyright date of 2004.I looked on Broadway Limited's discontinued products list and found my two A/B units on there, with a launch price of $424.99.

Not well. Depends on type of snow, but generally 1:1 snow with a 1:22.5 or so plow makes a solid ice mass at the blades. I've done it, takes a remotor, batteries, wings on the plow housing (so narrow you jam the body in the cut). There are VERY expensive German units that do work. I have the brass to make a new blade for mine that will cut snow...just have to find the time. Anniversary 4-6-0. Version 5 or 6? Dave
