To welcome "Tyco Guy", he may choose a different screen name, who I just talked to about the forum at the local Hobby shop this am. These are all custom paint jobs I did over the past couple of years. They are all Mantua MU2 drives.

Nice job, man. They look like actual production models.

Athearn. About 1957. Dual-geared Geep. Only did these a year or two. Had to go to plastic snap together gearboxes due to competition. Machined pot metal, oillite bearings, held together with 2-56 screws. Quiet and pulls good. Dave

Very nice. That is the dual-geared Athearn drivetrain I have on my bucket list. I have one of the plastic snap-together versions, which I do like but man is that thing loud. On the other hand it has no need for a sound system!

I wanted to save the GN shell for this unit. I have others, but wanted the GN. The ends (both) were smashed. Not enough of the steps to even try to save. I obtained a Santa Fe blue shell, missing all the add-ons, even the cab for free. Cut out the ends on the GN (platforms and all), cut the good ones out of the SF unit, filed to fit snugly, glued together with Weld-On #16, masked and painted, put the railings back. Somewhere I have photos of the rebuild. Lot of work, but, again, wanted to prove to myself I could still do that kind of stuff. Dave

Ok, I "guess" this will be the official LOTW post, right? Here's my contribution, a Kleinbahn electric dual-car. I forget where I got this one from, had never worked on it until yesterday. I was cleaning out my desktop cabinet and rearranging things, this was stored up there, so I took it out, took it apart, cleaned the contacts, lubed the motor, and finally got it running. The Drive unit was missing a truck, I took one off the trailing unit, but the plastic truck pins sheared off inside, and of course they don't match any US truck pin size . Will try some other plastic pins to see if I can get something close to hold the truck on, then I need to ream out the holes on the trailing unit and find two more pins eventually. Ah well, the life of a repairman.

Nothing makes my day like a traction articulated. That Maple Leaf Geep made me break out in a cold sweat, as well.

LOVE that GN geep. I've never had anything with that drive system before, just some similar plastic ones if I remember right.
I dug out some of my stuff in anticipation of building a new layout this summer. Here's one I don't think I've shown. I got it just before I moved and never had a chance to run it or work on it. Guts look fine, but the shell is going to need some help:

A unusual loco
The front end
What is it? hehe (yes I knows what it is )
What I'd like for these locos is a matching caboose BUT it has to say Lionel on the chassis

That giant whole was for a camera that used to be inside of the locomotive. You could've used that tech back in the day to watch the tracks and stuff. It's actually quite interesting.

Gmoney - on the the nose kovacste000 - still has B&W camera in it
I may modernize the loco & put in a COLOR camera & make the headlights work with LEDs Course I wants the G & 027 of these locos too some model railroad magazine had a article on how to wire the camera up to the rails instead of using the battery What I want to do is use a rechargeable battery so cam stays on if its stopped & battery is charged from the rails
Also this the loco I had AMC get for me off of eBay for $75 To which I finally paid him Locos came with directions, warrenty & transmitter box which looks like a pile of wood have tried it No luck with camera

This is my friend "Moose" and a pair of brass logging locomotives that he recently did frame off restorations on. The loco's were purchased in Japan, by my other friend Ron, in the late 1960's and stored ever since. When Ron tried to run them, they were froze solid and crusted with copper oxide upon the motors. Same motors, same everything, Moose has them running like a pair of Swiss Watches and they appear factory fresh.
Sorry about image quality, my pawn shop Kodak is getting older and worse by the day.

Yeah, I had doubts about posting this photo, but I will tell you Moose is one of friendliest, down right nicest guys you'd ever want to meet.
A little back story is that Moose worked in a copper smelter since he graduated high school. In his thirties, he had an industrial accident which wrecked his spine, and his knees. A very heavy pile of copper fell on him. Since then he has lived with terrible chronic pain that left him disabled.
Model railroading and rail fanning, along with his loving family, is what keeps Moose going. He is in pain 24/7, but he is quick with a smile and a handshake.
