Starting off this week's LOTW with some Traction action, here's two trolley cars by Greenlines, not a well-known maker anymore. I had to do some research to find out who made these. They seem to run pretty good, once they're cleaned up and lubed properly ( like most HO ). I think I have another Greenlines in pieces as well. Don't see them often at shows.

They look like VintageHO's Lake Shore trolley with that nice detail on the roof.

Very nice prewar shell, RDC, and very nice Greenline trollies, AMC. They're both very unique pieces. Anyway, to continue this apparent trolley theme for this week, my LOTW is a Tyco Broadway trolley. This thing is a horrendous runner.

I love how those Tyco trollies look but unfortunately, the later ones (brown box) run like garbage. At least, for me.

A Bachmann PCC makes the rounds on the Smelter Town trolley layout. I wore out two previous Bachmann's running 8 hours a day at train shows. Road is made from black bath tub calk laid over flex track that was placed in a routed groove on the plywood surface. Catenary is trimmed down Bachmann phone poles and yards of black thread- that the cats just love to play with. Anyone down for a spare cat?

It looks pretty good aside from the strange wheel configuration on it. Just something about it just doesn't seem right on a 4-6-0 chassis.

Steven, Looks right for an old odd wheel arrangement.

I think the odd wheel spacing on the 4-6-0 does not look right

It's just the style of chassis they used for it to me. If they used a 2-8-0 like the one above the 2-6-0 you have in your picture here, it would probably look better. Still, I like it.

If you had a Mantua 4-8-0 in less of a collector's mint condition, some features of the Champion might look pretty nice on it, like the fender over the drivers, instead of that skirt hanging off of the boiler with the brake cylinder on it. Also the ornate cab windows on Champion might set off the fancy turned domes nicely.
That's a cool picture of a prototype 4-8-0.

Hi Barry, dave, shaggy. Yep that 4-8-0 is in good shape. It was actually a common wheel arangement. The 4 wheel lead truck added some speed to the loco. frank

I have a special LOTW this week - I just got this in the mail today, an IHC/Mehano twin-motored GG1. Was advertised by the seller as having only been taken out of the box to test-run it, from her father's collection. Runs "smooth as silk" and very quiet. I did have to retract the pantographs to run on my layout, as they don't clear the tunnels when up.

So that's why they had the "4" at the front on most faster trains. They were for speed.

Another new addition that can't wait until Sunday - an AHM ATSF RS2, thanks to raysouthernpac. This is the newer 8-wheel drive version with the center located can motor. I have to say, I get just as fired up - if not more so - getting one of these old classics and watching it run, as I do a new boxed GG1.

Hey John, has #130 had some handrail work done? The long hood rails look like they are thinner. What did you use/do? I have some of those engines in the dead line and they all need rail work. I always figured I would try Athearn stanchions and some brass wire.
Thanks.

I lived out in Pecos for a bit. Flat as a dime. Mostly a ghost town now. PVS still pulls an occasional gravel train, and some frac sand, the track is so bent and twisted that a brakeman would hang of the front step to make sure it was still on the track. Very interesting "what if" concept going on here.

Those double motor IHC GG1's are some of the smoothest, best running HO engines ever made. Hook them up to Mantua Aluminum passenger cars and you will have the best possible train on an HO track. I love them.... I also have all of the road names.
That's a really nice looking layout....

Mr Turner, The RS #130 is a MDC RS3 model. It does have modified handrails. The plastic handrails supplied were a bear to install and keep on.
Here is the post where I described the handrail fabrication.
